Why worry about AOE in heroics? Aren't you CC-ing the mobs, then taking care of them one by one?

You don't AOE in Heroics, or even Regulars for that matter.
The rotation is pretty much the same as on tanks, except you don't use Mirror Image, and you don't waste Cold Snap and you use Ice Lance instead of Deep Freeze.
I'm doing a fine amount of DPS on Trash (one target at a time) with my Frost Mage.

I fish for FoF procs with CoC and FFOrb. Use pet nova to make most of your CoC hits crit, and Frost Nova right after a CoC to hopefully get shatter bonus before their frozen effects break.
Of course, Ice Lance with FoF procs, and worst case scenario you're getting zero procs so you're going to be spamming frostbolt.
