Suicide doesn't effect anyone else? Wow, too many kids in this thread. It effects the family of those who commit the suicide and their friends emotionally.
Well, I suppose you could argue that those who were close to someone who committed suicide are affected in a negative fashion; but you could say the same thing about those who were close to someone who died of natural causes (e.g. cancer, stroke, etc.)

Also, if you can't make alcohol illegal, then you are doing it wrong. Saudi Arabia prohibited alcohol a looooong time ago (Islam is to thank here).
Wait, are you really going to use Saudi Arabia as the standard to which we should hold ourselves up to? Seriously?

No, I was merely showing that prohibition could be done successfully. And what is wrong with Saudi Arabia?

Just a really interesting choice, considering all of the issues in the Middle East.
My view still remains the same though. I think cocaine should be legalized and any other drug that someone wishes to use. The moment they act out violently on another person or destroy property, then that act should be illegal and have serious repercussions.
I agree. I tend to think that the reason people in America misuse substances is because it is lawfully dangerous to do so. If it was no big deal, there wouldn't be such a mystique to it.

Yes, but my example is valid. I still believe legalizing drugs is like legalizing murder. Also, no offense, but who are you?

People as a whole have a tendancy to push the boundaries. It's human nature. When you make something illegal, it makes it that much more desirable. If they made cocaine legal, this desire would subdue a little, but people would still use. If someone wants to use a drug, so be it, it's their decision; it's their life. I don't understand how someone can go to jail because they chose a bad decision that affected only themselves.
It also increases the risk of harming someone else. That's why its illegal to drink and drive... driving drunk doesn't harm anyone else, until you get in an accident.

Unfortunately, the decision never just affects the person who made it. It affects family, friends, and coworkers if it is handled improperly.
That having been said, I still think there would be less misuse if it was legalized. There wouldn't be such a stigma attached to getting help.

Do you not see what you're doing TheMediator? You're taking an action which is legal and applying an illegal action to it. The same would apply to those who smoked and drove. If they hit someone, it would be the same, if not worse, as if they were drunk.
Drinking and Driving isn't legal in the US. Not sure what you're talking about.
