There is an example guild which killed illidian with some blue items.
This is what's called hearsay, citing an example, but offering no proof. Please direct me to the posts, websites, and/or videos of this guild.
I'm not sure of the guild, or if they had blues, but I know the Chinese have killed Illidan with a mix of T4, T5, and very little T6 gear. They progressed as fast as they could since TBC had just been released in China. Think it was 1 month was all it took for that guild to go 60 to 70
and
kill Illidan.
At that speed, I wouldn't be suprised if they had blues in the mix as well.

Robe of Winter Night
is an excellent crafted option if you're not racing to Outlands. I used them for some time. You'll need to find/be a tailor to pick up the BOP pattern from the Cobalt Mageweavers in Winterspring.
