Evlyn Linder
Dragonblight
Evlyn's death was instantaneous. Merciful.
She felt the gasp she had sucked in the previous moment escape her lungs. She felt her pierced heart relax for the last time ever. She saw a small dark stain creep across her chest where blood escaped from the wound.
She should've seen it coming.

"
Do not think of it as an end, Evlyn
," Miter said conversationally as she fell. "
Consider it a beginning. A new beginning to your devotion to the Crusade
."
He stood, looming over the fallen shadow priest. Miter extended a hand towards her. Magic, black as ink, flowed from his hand and into the shard in her chest. "
But the Crusade requires autonomy. Of a sort. And power Evlyn. Power. But you are weak.
"
But you will be strong
," he said, curling his fingers wreathed in darkness as if beckoning her to rise. "
You will return strong, without fear of death. Fear is the enemy Evlyn. It kills far more thoroughly than any blade. So do not fear death.
" He clenched his hand suddenly, a beat like that from a foul heart echoing from the shard. "
Fear me. And live. Live!
"

Balrick Brighthammer

They rode steadily across the frozen wastes. Soon even the skeleton of trees fell far behind. The tundra stretched on, broken by jagged hills of ice thrust up like blades. Here and there the bones of dragons rose, half submerged in the ice, ribs like columns and skulls like hills. As they rode Balrick turned his head and eyed a tall structure rising in the distance. A towering spire as tall as a mountain, and around its peak, winged forms could be seen slowly circling.
It was the first time Balrick had seen Wyrmrest, and from a distance, he felt little for the place.

Evlyn watched Miter like through a veil.
This is why I'll be better than you,
she thought, hardly even shocked.
You don't pay attention. I never feared death, and I will certainly not fear you.
Like breaking the surface after a dive. That was the best way to explain the feeling of retuning to 'life'. Her dive had been shallow -- something like consciousness present all throughout the process -- and now it was over. Faintly glowing eyes looked up at the inquisitor's figure. She tried to speak, and voice came out without breath. Incomprehensible at first, but then the pressing question: "What
am
I?"

"
The new face of the Crusade
," Miter said. His face flickered in the shadows of his hood, and he cast a hand towards the corner where the necromancer was being held. "
Let us see what form it takes.

"There is... power here." I feel it prickling my skin. If I could tap into one of the ley lines..." The mage smiled. "Oh, the possibilities."

Up.
Getting to her feet was slow, but curiously effortless. The experience was unlike anything else, and it would take getting used to. A faint smile showed on her lips at the thought.
Become used to being dead.
"What is your command, sir?"

"
Though pain is an effective means of extracting information, I have heard the shadow does well itself.
" His hand closed in a fist. "
Rip any information left from our captive.

"That would be the shenanigans the blue dragonflight has been up to as of late, I would advise you not to tap into any founts of power here, they are guardians of magic, and have not been too friendly as of late." The spellblade counseled to the spellcaster

Wylliem brought a horrific and gruesome havoc to the crusaders that could not be described in words. After none braved to face him, he left. Though shortly some higher ranked crusaders came to respond to the call, a bit hasty for the knight.
Outside the walls Twylith waited. First the darkfallen came with his two hostages, still not awake. Later the death knight.
"I left a message of blood, think they will do the trade?" The darkfallen crossed his arms over his chest.
"I hope so." Twylith shrugged.
"What where we doing again?" Lord Swordhaart asked dumbly.
"By the... Terrorism." Kyt shot back after shaking his head.

"Zakire?"
Evlyn cupped a gloved hand under the knocked-out necromancer's chin. "It's time you woke again." A jolt went up Zakire's jaw and into her brain, meant to kick her awake. "The inquisitors can be so blunt", she continued in a low voice while checking the prisoner's restraints. "I'm sure we'll understand each other better, as two students of the sinister path."

The necromancer groaned, opened her eyes to a blurry world. Almost reactionary Zakire shifted her body to check the bindings.
"Students?" She asked confused. Having difficult to connect what the other one is similar to herself. Looking around. "Where is my scythe?"

"We'll keep that in mind," Balrick said, and spurred his horse onward. The open tundra lay before them. Vast and flat, only the ancient bones jutting forth making a change in the landscape. Balrick began to turn from it.
But Moriv cantered onto the ice.
Balrick gave a slight start and looked at the horse. It responded to his will, yet he could not turn it. The dreadsteed looked content enough, not rebellious, yet moved with undeniable purpose across the icy flats.
Grown curious, Balrick let the horse go forth.
