Fair enough. I have this habit I'm still trying to break that comes from too many late cramming sessions at university. Skim reading. I shall endevour to be more thourgher in the future.
Actually something that did just occur to me, you said you asked your friend about BoD in beta, did you ask him about Demon Bolt at all?
Post by
asakawa
i didn't ask but it's been so conspicuously absent from sites like mmo-c and wowhead's cata side that i'd pretty much forgotten about it. i'll ask him to check next time he's on but i think we might have lost it.
it does seem odd that there wasn't any mention of it's removal from blizz though.
(unless i missed the blue post on it)
had a look through blue trackers and can't find a mention of demon bolt since april. it also isn't any where in the beta files that i can tell, having also been removed from the early impending doom tooltip

double post but 2 days and a different subject.
interesting things on mmo-c today.
first the disclaimer!
A new beta build has been deploye... Actually, no, a new build appeared out of nowhere and was never deployed on beta servers. I have absolutely no idea why, but, hey, it's still a beta build!
Disclaimer - This build is NOT ON BETA SERVERS, I have no way to confirm strange values by checking in-game and a lot of temporary stuff might be there.
and the details
Affliction
* Seed of Corruption base AE damage increased by 33%.
* Drain Mana mana cost reduced from 17% of base mana to 12% of base mana.
* Drain Life now restores 5% total health to the caster every 1 sec regardless of damage done. Soulburn now reduces cast time by 50%, down from 60%. Mana cost reduced from 17% of base mana to 12% of base mana.
* Life Tap changed to - You Life Tap for 20% of your total health, converting 75% of that into mana.
* Corruption now has a 40 yards range, up from 30 yards.
* Haunt now has a 40 yards range, up from 30 yards.
* Soul Swap now has a 40 yards range, up from 30 yards.
* And I think Dark Pact is gone, but since I also screwed up with Soul Link last time, I strongly suggest that you assume I'm stupid until it's confirmed.
Demonology
* Soulburn now lasts 20 sec, up from 15 sec.
* Unending Breath is back.
* Nemesis is gone.
*
Hand of Gul'dan's range increased from 30 yards to 40 yards and revamped - Summons a falling meteor down upon the enemy target, dealing 1597.26 to 1886.4 Shadow damage and erupts an aura of magic within 4 yards, causing all targets within it to have an increased 10% chance to be critically hit by any of your demons for 15 sec.
* Ancient Grimoire is now a Tier 5 talent, up from Tier 4.
* Demonic Rebirth has a 2 minute cooldown.
* Aura of Foreboding (Tier 4) *New* - When your Hand of Gul'dan lands, all enemies within 4 yards will be rooted for 2/3 sec and stunned for the same duration if they are still within the Curse of Gul'dan aura 6 sec afterword.
Destruction
* Shadowflame no longer fears the targets.
* Hellfire base damage increased by 33%.
* Rain of Fire base damage increased by 33%. Range increased from 30 yards to 35 yards.
* Immolate range increased from 30 to 40 yards.
* Chaos Bolt range increased from 30 to 40 yards.
* Empowered Imp now has a 2/4% chance to proc from your Imp's Firebolt.
* Soul Leech now restores 1/2% of your total health and mana, down from 5/10%.
*
Backdraft now reduces the casting time of Shadow Bolt, Incinerate, and Shadow Bolt by 10/20/30% for 15 sec. No longer has 3 charges
.
i've bolded the ones i think are interesting. other items look interesting for PvP but i'll let others comment on those.
it looks like HoG is folding in some elements from the missing demon bolt which is good. i'm not so fussed about the root but i imagine even PvE locks will have enough points to pick it up anyway and it's likely to have a few uses.
the destro one looks like a typo that should include chaos bolt. assuming that this is a nice change. that buff should be 100% maintainable.
all AoE increased. sounds nice but is likely just balancing the numbers.

I'm really happy with those two. I always liked BGs, and demo always have been my favorite spec. But I don't use for PvP because, now, it sucks.
In Cata, on the other hand, it's going to be AWESOME. HoG is a powerfull AoE that can be used in offensive and defesive ways. I can see some PvE utility, but nothing like the epicness of the PvP ones.
Also there's the rated BGs. I really have to save some money to buy Cata asap.
Edit: I can't se my texto o.O
Edit 2: Still not seeing...
Edit 3: Fix'd =D

Some nice changes and some that we all knew were gonna get changed.
Drain life with some haste is gonna be quite fun in pvp and useful
Demonic rebirth is nice but unless they make pet scaling better in cata its just a slighty better fel domination.
Shadowflame change seems like a bit of overkill while a 6 second unbreakable horror was overpowered they could have either lowered the time or made it break on damage.
Soulleech change makes sense 10% of mana and health was too powerful for pvp.
Edit: The life tap change is also very interesting since there making it so all armor classes have the same amount of stam on them warlocks will be seeing a increase in hp have to wait and see if this will be a nerf/buff. ( Atm fully raid buffed it would be a nerf)

I was wondering when they were going to take out the horror on shadowflame. When I first saw that, I knew it was going to be removed.
And I think we're overlooking the most important fact here:
Unending breath is back.

Chaos bolt?
As for the changes...I dunno what to think. Hopefully we'll see warlocks tanking with drain life though. Tanking princes is always great fun when ever I get the rare opportunity :0

I have to say I'm not thrilled by the loss of Nemisis nor the change to Soul Leech. Backdraft sounds interesting. I think a wait and see attitude is needed here.

...huh,
did i completely miss this or has it not been reported very widely?
2/2 in cremation gives you:
"Increases the damage done by your Hellfire by 30% and..."
now the wowhead page for cremation doesn't show this change but the talent's tooltip on the calculator does.
well, it's the talent that's needed to make hellfire stand out as the demo AoE so good change.

Odd... I didn't notice that either, I thought it was just the refresh on immolate.
It seems to be a typo on the ranks.
Rank 1
Rank 2
Good catch as always Asakawa. Factoring this 30% increase with the baseline 33% AoE buff they recently did in that unreleased beta build...thats a lot of fire damage

Perhaps it's to bring Hellfire's dmg into line with Seed and Rain being buffed by mastery bonus.

i wouldn't give too much consideration to the recent 33% bump to all AoE that happened on beta servers, pretty much across all classes.
ghostcrawler said recently:
We found with the previous numbers that it wasn't really worth using AEs even on packs of 5+ creatures. We made some of the initial AE damage adjustments before the new talent trees were as far along as they are now. With the trees in their current state there are talents that buff specific abilities, often single target abilities, but not as many synergies that improve AE. Once you're talented, the single target abilities just eclipse the AEs by too much.
This shouldn't get us back to the place where players (good ones anyway) AE even on 2-3 targets.
it was just a balance thing. i've been saying for a while that the range increase on hellfire is nice but probably isn't enough to pull it ahead of seed. this is far more likely to achieve that. it looks like, if this does go live, we've got the three specs using the three different AoEs just like had been suggested very early on in the beta process.

Seems the love for affliction is still relatively low, I mean compared to all the changes to demo and destro. Or is it just the grass that seems fel-greener on the other side? Or is there any hope that affliction will still be changed quite a bit?

I think Afflic got some serious love with soul swap.

the diamond that is affliction has initially been cut so well that it doesn't need as much modification ;)
anyway, so hellfire may become serious aoe contender, at least for the demo tree? Pretty cool. However, isn't there potentially a bit of a practical problem? Seeing as the raid situation tends to be a chaos of visual stimuli, making me wonder how tanks can keep up with all the trash adds, will not a literal sea of lava around the raid's legs make this a lot worse? It could be that I exaggerate, I guess f. ex rain of fire has similar issues. But still...

Very situational, like destro's bane of havoc. Most fights still tend to 1 boss vs the raid making its use somewhat limited. And yes there are some changes, ah well guess I'll just have to wait till cata to see.
Also when aoe is flying all over the place, yes things will get messy, but not any more or less then today's mess.

Some new pet abilities in the latest build, apparently.
Felguard gets Mortal Strike/Divine Storm (replaces cleave), Bladestorm, Axe Toss, Pursuit (replaces charge). They separated charge's stun component into Axe
Toss, which also does damage (and stuns) with no minimum range.
Imp gets a teleport to your side ability, and a defensive magic dispell.
And it seems the Felhunter's dispell has changed to offensive only.
Post by
Rekijan
Is that for real? *blink*
Seems really unbalanced felguard getting all that when felhunter only gets a nerf.
EDIT: And how could people like mmo-champion and wow-insider and wowhead itself on top of that missed all these changes?
