I never liked the running tactic, since I cant charge. And I normally do guildruns as tank so I can play around a bit more.
I face him towards the group after his groundslams. Melee has time to run through him after the paralyze if they choose to get behind him and start running as soon as they get hit by the paralyze, or just run the other direction if they choose that. some just stand next to me. When he casts paralyze I just run towards the ranged just enough so I can immediately charge him after the shatter, just turn your char and take a step back so he gets back in position for the next groundslam. I did so after the first time I tried this boss and noticed that you tend to charge right through him.
Might sound risky, and probably will cause a wipe or to until you get the hang of it, but you will never be out of range from the healer, since the boss never moves more then a step or two from the pull position.
Haven't had a death from this since i started doing it.

From my experience at least, I would recommend not using charge to get back to him.
this. i had so many issues after charging back in, like getting hit with the shockwave while i was standing completely next to him.
after i stopped charging, i haven't died on the fight since.

Not to mention charge/intercept tends to place you behind him due to him running towards you. Which in turn makes him face the rest of the group and 9/10 people won't move out of the way of his shockwave.

that's it. i've only had one healer complain about getting out on shatter. and he continued to complain while i was looting and mining the corpse.
he's 530 to mine. you carry extra mining gloves around with you or are you talking about normal?

He's talking about normal, I'm betting, since I haven't worried about the shatters either.
Looks like I'll have to practice getting out of them.
I've definitely noticed that he consistently GSs after the shatter, so running away will be necessary.

normal is a joke - you can just stand in everything.
heroic, this fight changes completely - 2nd worst boss to tank, imo.

I am curious as to your opinion on the 1st.
oh, that fire guy in blackrock. he'd actually be fun to tank if he wasn't so damn annoying about when he decides to follow you and when he decides to just kick back and cast while you run away.
