Naive question about Enchants

How do I get Enchants on my gear; all my "enchantable" kit is un-enchanted & I don't know how to fix this. Do I need to find an enchanter (where?), get lucky on drops, pick up some secretive quest, or is this something restricted to the profession?
I'm still what you'd probably describe as a noob, but whatever, I enjoy the game. I do think there's a lot more fun to be had if I had more knowledge, & this is something that has been bugging me for a while, so thanks for any & all help.
Cheers,

Enchanting
is a profession you can pick up, which will allow you to enchant your armor and weaponry, and that of others, with additional stats and benefits.
There are 2 ways to get your gear enchanted if you aren't an enchanter yourself:
1) You can ask around in trade chat (or your guild if you are in one) by saying your are looking for an enchanter. You'll usually get one or more whispers from enchanters asking what you need, or linking their enchanting window.
If you go this route, you and the enchanter meet up somewhere, you'll give him the materials for the enchant(s) you want, and he'll enchant your gear through the trade window (you don't give him your gear! Use the "Will not be traded" slot in the trade window).
2) You go to the Auction House, and see if the enchant you are looking for is listed on it. Enchanters can put enchants on scrolls, and sell them through the Auction House. Do note that this is usually more expensive than doing it through option 1. It's best to look at the prices of the materials you need for an enchant, and than compare them to the price of the scroll (add in a tip/profit margin for the enchanter). If it's a lot more expensive, just grab the raw materials and look for an enchanter.
You can get enchanting materials from the Auction House, or by clicking "Disenchant" on items that drop when you are running a dungeon or raid (this option is only available if you have an appropriate level enchanter in your group).
Also, no need to call yourself a noob, we've all been new at some point. If you have any other questions about anything, just let us know!

Well first I wouldnt call you noob.
Ok enhanting is "job" (cant remember how to write it).
Profession.
Here's the link to the enchanting page on Wowhead.
So yes, you'll have to find an enchanter either via guildies "/2 LF enchanter," or searching the auction house for certain enchants.
Sometimes you'll be running a dungeon or questing and you'll get an enchant to drop. You cannot learn any enchanting recipes unless you are of the profession, just like how leatherworking, jewelcrafting, blacksmithing, alchemy, and tailoring work.
If you're wondering what kind of enchants are viable for your class and spec, going to
www.noxxic.com
, clicking on World of Warcraft, and then clicking on your class and spec will help you decide what is the best for you (note that it's for max-leveled toons.)
If you are still leveling, take into consideration that the gear you're wearing will probably be moot in a few levels and you'll outgear it much faster than if you hit max level. Enchanting low level gear is kind of pointless in that aspect. So unless you're an enchanter yourself, don't bother enchanting your gear as you're leveling, unless you're twinking your character.

rememeber if you have someone else enchant your gear with your own materials through the trade window (see option 1 from CalaelenDT ) do not forget too tip them or pay the fee.
while the enchanter uses your materials, he's still providing a service too you do not expect it to be free.
either pay the asked amount (you can often bargain about this) and if none is asked add a decent gold number yourself ( depending rarity enchant a decent tip can range from 1-100g+).
you rarely find an enchanter who does it for free, and thats their good right since its an expensive proffesion too skill up.

its an expensive proffesion too skill up.You aren't kidding. On my server, it cost me around 15 000 gold to go from 300-500 skill. I last played that character about two years ago, and can't remember what it cost to skill up 1-300, and I still have to go from 500-600!
So yes, please tip your Enchanter, but don't break your own wallet. My rule of thumb is (very) roughly 1 gold per 50 skill difficulty, x 2 for blue enchants. That means approximately, if I were to tip someone with my skill level (500) I'd tip 50 gold for a mundane or green enchant, but 100 or so for some fancy ultimate cosmic weapon enchant.
Keep in mind that is just me, and even then, it isn't set in stone.

I'd like to point out that a few of us not only do it for free, but will actually refuse payment if you've brought your own reagents.
However, you're more than right about the expense of the profession.

I disagree, not a noob.
Newbie, sure. Everyone starts as a newbie. Noobs are arrogant know-it-alls who know nothing.
