Going from Cata to MoP, I went with From Darkness Comes Light and Divine Insight as my DPS talents, FDCL is great for movement and when multi DoTing can do some great low mana cost numbers. DI procs mind blasts to supplement your Orb gen, any fight where you can have pain running on 2-3 targets and you will be Mind Blasting a lot.
Rotationally, the main differences are that VT is a lot weaker than in cata, primarily used to regen mana now, tho it still does decent damage, so definitely worth casting- just not above pain. Speaking of Pain, it's a lot stronger now, (provided the enemy survives the full duration) it's roughly 40% stronger than VT, not counting the Apparition damage which now hit about as hard as a SW:P tick, which when combined with decent crit/mastery is often! :)
Try to get 3 orbs to start out a boss fight, fade as tank taps the boss, then open with:
DP>MB>SW:P>Fiend>VT>MF
Once you get rolling, its just the same old DoT upkeep game its always been, maintain SW:P/VT on target, MB on CD and cast DP at 3 orbs, if you ever need to move, spam SW:P on the boss, or dump your instant MB/MS procs.
On AoE, well we're a little weak and our AoE rotation is a lot closer to the 2.3 model oddly enough. We are not meant to simply Mind Sear repeatedly, its admittedly undertuned imho, but we roll the cards we're dealt.
MS per target DPS VS SW:P multidot
MSx1=2.7K DPS SW:Px1= 2.5K DPS
MSx2=5.2K DPS SW:Px2= 5K DPS
MSx3=8.1K DPS SW:Px3= 7.5K
MSx4=11K DPS SW:Px4= 9K DPS
MSx5=13.7KDPS SW:Px5=11.5K DPS
Again these don't take Apparitions which skew in favor of SW:P slightly. Yet we can see that up until 3 targets SW:P is right on Par, and needs to be spread to as many targets that will survive the duration, opening with Pain on 2-3 'hard' targets, then AoE-ing with MS is a good habit to get into in this case. We're still mid teir AoE at best tho, but keep in mind all of our 90 talents are AoE so the AoE bigger picture is likely balanced around that.

The shadow 'rotation' changed a couple of times during Cata. At level 85, with MoP mechanics, the priority system is as follows (this is basic, changes with procs):
Devouring Plague with 3 orbs
Mindbender / Shadowfiend
Mind Blast
Shadow Word: Death
If none of the above are available, refresh DOTs if needed, otherwise Mind Flay (or Shadow Word: Pain if moving).
To be honest, in 85 heroics, others will be in far better gear and doing so much DPS that you simply won't get anywhere near before the mobs die. Except bosses I suppose which is where you should practice your priorities.
Always try and have 3 orbs when entering a boss fight - don't use DP on trash leading up to the boss. If you trust your tank you can open with DP-3, otherwise open with VT then DP-3, then MB, MBSF, then DOTs.
On trash groups you can use SWP, then Mind Sear from the tank, using Mind Blast on cooldown to ensure you have 3 orbs for the next boss.
Don't get hung up on low DPS in heroics at this stage in an expansion. Just concentrate on the bosses or a target dummy, and worry about your performance when you get to level 90.

Fading immediately prior to the pull, and dropping DP-3 after the initial Charge/Avengers Shield/etc lets you burst pretty much as hard as you can. Since the tank has 10 seconds to surpass this initial burst, there's very little chance of the tank not generating enough threat to surpass you, considering the current state of Tank threat. Do wait for that initial hit tho, a facepulled boss won't technically have any threat on the tank, and will immediately B-line your squishy face. Watching the tank on those initial trash pulls will tell you if opening in this manner is a good idea or not, but it is a good habit to get into for maximizing your numbers.

spriests are good at the moment.
If you have multiple targets of about 4 or more dont worry too much about hard casting VT, focus on keeping SWP up for the DI procs so you can have an extremely high uptime of DP on your primary target. 3 orb DP hits like a truck, maximise your DP uptime, top the meters.
FDCL Vs. Bender is a bit debatable, both are good on movement fights, bender has a slightly higher DPET I believe, so it depends on actually how many globals you currently have going spare. On multi-dot heavy fights where you almost have no Mind Flay time it's probably better having bender but if you are single targeting and mana is not an issue maybe FDCL is slightly better.
I tend to opt for the pet simply because of playstyle, just one less proc to manage and the dps difference seems rather small in reality.
