I can't speak for them.
This is probably the most unacceptable answer you can offer.

Oh well; I'm not prepared to cast judgment on all those soldiers who weren't part of the actual atrocity.

You are clearly dodging the question. I said soldiers who murdered people, acting within the law, and following orders from elected government authorities.
Are you so invested in the idea that law = morality that you cannot condemn the holocaust? Honestly?

Thank you DoctorLore for saying what I was thinking heh.

DoctorLore - Your responses address the consequences of an indivduals actions to himself. They DO NOT address what the person should do for morality sake. The actions described and options given are very egocentric. What do I need to do to avoid execution? What stage of moral development is that?

I offer my dissent: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Self-sacrificing love, is the greatest moral achievement. Your idea that "self-preservation" must exist
before morals
is horrible.
To illustrate, I would happily die, put to death by the Nazi regime, before I complied with an order that required me to murder. That would be quite satisfactory to me. In fact, it is the only option that I can accept. It is the only moral option.
If everyone had morals like that, there would be no war, no murder, etc.

I agree with MyTie here. I would die before doing something that required me to kill an innocent, especially in such a painful way. I feel guilty for the smallest, most insignificant things, I'd never live with myself if I killed someone.

So then where does War itself fall under the morals?

It may be, but it's true. Species that are comprised of beings which don't care whether they live or die are more commonly known as "extinct": they couldn't possibly survive long enough to develop intelligence or morals if they react to a predator by shrugging and waiting for the flurry of teeth, claws and blood.
A summary of how we differ:
MyTie:
Morals > Self
DoctorLore:
Morals < Self
Let that sink in.So then where does War itself fall under the morals?
It does now, and always has. It's, again, part of why I left the military.

Then you are likely on Stage 4 of moral development.
I read some of the stuff in that link and I don't believe that fits how I am. I wouldn't really have a big problem with someone else stealing the drug but I don't think I would not do it myself.
For a kind of unrelated example: if I go to let's say McDonalds and I get 1 $ more back then I would correct them and give it back, where as 100% of my friends wouldn't.
This is just how I work, I don't think I could change it and I don't think I would change it if I could.

No but it is what feels right for me.

But what if the company policy is to cash up all the tills at the end of the day and remove any shortfall in the till's total from the staff's wages?
The vast majority of theft and embezzlement is carried out not because the perpetrator is desperate or even particularly in need, but simply because they think they can get away with it.
If you get an extra dollar change from a chain restaurant you're not keeping it because you need it or because of any judgement of who needs it most. You're keeping it because there's no way you could get in trouble for it.
