The bonus damage from Improved Cleave is far more useful for a dual-wielder (where that +154 damage represents a far greater % increase on weapon damage than on a powerful 2-hander) and works well with whirlwind or sweeping strikes to increase melee damage, though the general consensus seems to be that those talents are put to better use elsewhere.
Improved Slam is much better for a two-handed weapon, but takes practice with the timing to get right (it's also worth noting the player can't move when the half second cast bar is up or the ability is interrupted, so using it in a BG is more difficult without using piercing howl or hamstring first to keep the target in range).
