Hi. I have a 85 hunter and a soon to be 85 warrior. I am trying to decide which to use for pvp and which for pve I was just wondering if hunters are any good at pvp for rated bg's and arena. What spec is best in pvp, pet, and how the general strategy is.

SV untill patch 4.0.6.
After that, nobody knows...
EDIT: Ah, you mean PvP. Best spec is... uhm... stick to PvE.

One Of my coworkers has been pvping as a prot warrior and said that it's been pretty good. I haven't done pvp with my hunter since bc and only just started leveling him again. But marks is getting a few buffs in the next patch.

SV untill patch 4.0.6.
Oh youuu. ;D
Edit: On topic; yes, hunters are doing just fine in PvP, granted that also depends on your play style and your spec and all that jazz. Right now, I think it's safe to say Surv is the best spec; however in 4.0.6., it's taking a slight nerf on a few of its things, while Beast Mastery and Marksman is getting buffed a bit; so soon enough, hopefully all three specs will be just fine in PvP (and PvE, for that matter). General strategy... I suck at explaining things, but basically do try to keep enemies at a distance, make use of CC (traps, shots, etc) and as far as a pet goes... I suppose that depends on your preference; there are several great pets to use, to be honest, it depends on what utility you want to bring through your pet.

You sure you didn't mix the terms up a bit there? Our arena rep would like a word with you.

I got an 80 Hunter and working currently on another Hunter, lvl 47 at this point. Mostly pvp with them, and, it's amazing if you learn the class, use all the traps, and, most importantly use the right pet.
You main job is to stay away from everybody, so kite like a madman. In that case, make sure you use the right pet. I use a crab which is imo THE perfect pvp pet to keep peeps away from you. You got charge, pin and intervene. There are some really cool ,ids on youtube by a pvp hunter, but, their are a bit old, pre cat. Things changed since then of course, like the focus thing, but they are still amazing to watch. The Hunter's name is Brang. He made one recent video him using focus and he still kicks butt.
Anyway, I never played a Warrior but, I got no problems with me beating them. I am SV on both of them btw. Like I said, my high lvl Hunter is currently at 80. Not sure what changes between 80-85.
But, I love pvping with them. If you know how to play therm, you'll own.

It's not my fault if you do poorly in PvP. A good handful of hunters I know and I do just fine. Perhaps you should ask
your
rep how to PvP properly?
-2/10 troll; keep on truckin'.

Actually, I'm doing just fine. Hunters as a whole are definitely not.
One other thing. Just because I believe something different does not make me a troll. Keep grasping.

A bit out of date, but they're quite valid.
Also,
I don't see any hunters here
. (BG9)
Still nothing
.
A few hunters for 5s popular team comp. Too bad they're not high ranked by the look of it.
Keep lookin'.
Just 1 Hunter 5v5 team...it's a popular comp though.
Nope...
Zomg a hunter at top 1 3v3.
1 hunter 5v5 popular comp again
.
Nothing...=(
Nothing (lol at the 3rd ranked 2v2 comp)
None in my battlegroup either. I know some pretty good Hunters too...
Nope
.
1 Hunter 5v5 popular comp again
13 battlegroups. 1 high ranked hunter in an arena team out of all of them...
And each battlegroup had a number of popular hunter-related comps that I could count on one hand. This doesn't perfectly represent our Rated Battlegrounds status (I imagine it's much better, considering we're usually innately good at BGs) and Hunters at any given time didn't even have
average Gladiator representation for any season,
yet there is still no excuse for the extremely low representation of Hunters at this given time (Jan. 20).
So I'm pretty damned sure I know what I'm talking about.

Of course you are.
And as a whole? Hunters aren't doing
that
badly. Then again, I'm not a drama queen that claims the sky is falling every time there's a slight nerf here or there, and all that stuff.
But like I already said, 4.0.6 will hopefully bring Hunters in line (or at least a step in the right direction, though we'll see) as a whole.
Edit: (Oops; double posted, like a boss)

Last I checked, I wasn't calling your views/beliefs on the current subject trolling; as a matter of fact, I enjoy reading/hearing other people's views, because it's very nice to hear other strategies/etc, for possible future use, and I like hearing how other people play.
I called your trolling trolling. Good day. ;]

Oh sorry, that was totally "believing something different" and not trolling (Or a poor attempt at it; while not expressing your views in the least bit.) in the least bit. My bad. Please forgive me, hunter god. :]

- always attack in groups. If that is not possible, have a melee character get most of their attention, and snipe them from afar
- Arcane Shot exists for a reason - anyone who allows a Hunter to stand long enough to fire an Aimed Shot deserves to be riddled with holes. Most people aren't that stupid, so always constantly strafe and fire at the enemy. With the 4.0.6 patch enabling you to use Auto-Shoot while moving, you have no excuse
- terrain is your friend. In EotS, for example, you can often shoot the incoming melee enemies while they move to the ramp (offer not valid for DKs though). Similarly, Serpent Sting + get out of LOS + place a trap just around the corner = basic tactic against ranged attackers
-
Scatter Shot
can interrupt spellcasting (although as MM, the first 3rd tier talent I picked is Silencing Shot)
- people often ignore a hunter's pet and go against the hunter instead; so run away, and make your pet
do your work
for you
- as a Hunter, if you didn't have Track Humanoid and Track Hidden on at all times, you deserve to be shot
