There's two different types of religious music I don't like, and two different ways I don't like them.
There's the dogma music, which reminds me of the practices and stories (praying, Jesus on the cross, heaven, etc.) which is usually sung for other religious people. I don't like that because I just find religion distasteful in general. This kind of music just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I turn up my other music to drown it out.
The other kind is
prayer
music, which is essentially prayer put to song. It's this type that gets me (see the two songs I linked in my last post), because this type is deeply personal and often beautiful in sound. These kinds are tear at my heart, rather than simply leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Perhaps it wouldn't if I hadn't been raised as a Christian, but I do like the idea of a personal, loving god (even if now I think that the god describes in the Old Testament is really not very loving). I kinda wish it was true. But I just don't think it is, and I won't lie to myself.
"Take me back to you, the place that I once knew, as a little child..." is the perfect line for what those songs do to me. I really don't think God exists. My parents and siblings insist that I believe deep down and am just angry at God, but I'm pretty confident that's not true. As far as I can tell (since no man can look into his subconscious), I really don't believe in God. I don't think that he exists. Yet I can't help but long for that safety and comfort that the lie gave me.

The kind of Christian music I like is the kind that I really can't tell is about Jesus. There are a few decent metal bands like this. Narnia, for instance.

Jesus is a Friend of Mine as performed by Sonseed. Best spiritual song ever.
Or is that terrifying, rather than best? I'm not sure... And frankly, the name of the group just SOUNDS dirty.

All I listen to is religious music. Just not the kind of religious music you guys are talking about.

Odin loves me, this I know, for Valhalla tells me so...

Do you want a tear to fall off your cheek? You should take a look at this
lifehouse skit
. It really did for me. However, it didn't make me less of a non-believer.

Jediism was not an option?
What a shame...lol
Neither was Satanism. Both equally real, and equally awesome.

Just searched it and on one website it says it's 5,000 years old. Is that true?
It was created a long long time ago.

Surely the question on everyone's mind now is what gender is the Flying Spaghetti Monster? (What's it hiding under all that noodle-y goodness?)
The Flying Spagetti Monster is male, of course...he has meatballs.
And on earlier discussed topic of religious music, I'm not really religious (would define myself as a non-denominational theist) but Amy Grant's "Better than a Hallelujah" is a really good song.
