RP is not all server, no matter what the mockers say about the RP servers. Most RP servers are just like the normal servers, except the role playing that occurs there isn't looked at funny. If you want to RP, get a good RP guild or get some of your friends to join you on the server.

Yeah, RP servers are plagued by random morons just like the other realms... Sure, they tend to die out eventually, but some of them power through to 85 just to continue pissing people off.
Anyhow... RPing is quite simple to start, and can become very complex if you so choose. Coming up with a believable back story (none of this "Thrall's twin brother separated at birth") is probably the trickiest thing, as people tend to get carried away and make their characters into Tenchi Muyo (you know, a character everyone loves regardless of how annoyingly stupid they actually are).
During my stay on an RP server (Scarlet Crusade), I never really got into any heavy RPing... I just stayed in character (tho' ah decided ta go easy on da' Troll lingo, mon... dat stuff be hard ta keep up wit, ya know?) and treated other people with respect (sort of like how I manage real life... weird).

Regardless of the realm type I am on, I generally /ignore anyone who /yells, and I opt out of the trade channel. If general and local defense start to get too chatty, I open the combat log so I can bypass chat entirely.
Sometimes, you just want to immerse yourself. Good Luck.
