How exacly do u obtain a mount in the first place?

Usually, in the 2nd town you see while leveling ( ex: Sen'jin Village for Orc, trolls ), you can see NPCs around mounts.
One of them sells mounts and other teach riding.

One of them sells mounts and other teach riding.
The exception to this is silvermoon city, the blood elf mounts are actually by a small building to the left of the city (if you're leaving the city).
edit: Now that I think of it, wolves (orc mount) are like this too, but they're actually inside orgrimmar.
