is it something to do with graphics options? Maybe if you have spell detail on low, the glow appears as crystal type things, whereas on high spell detail it's all smoothed into a nice glow.

I think it's your video options. I noticed no change.

Yup. I currently use the Honed Voidaxe in PvP and I've still got the glowing orb.
