So I'm considering starting my old guild back up, its really been nothing to me since
burning crusade
but a bank when that system was introduced.
I've had my fair share of leading back then and until now with officer positions in big raiding and leveling guilds.
My only concern is there is always so many questions from new members who join a guild and i would like to tackle that issue head on, so what i really need is some people who can lend a few moments of their time to write some
Question's & Answers
to common Issues surrounding a guild and new members.
(for example;
Q:
How long do you initially need to be in the guild until you can be promoted?
A:
(varies) 2 weeks or 50g deposited into guild bank
Please reply with as many as you can and we can work together to get answers for them all.
Big Thanks in Advance!

A: You don't.

Depends, is this just going to be a social leveling guild or a raiding guild? Or mixed? Different Q&As would be needed for different type of guild. I will say one thing, selling promotions will usually always keep the decent to great players away from your guild.

Just my two cents- generally, the less "formal" rules in a guild, the better. For things like raid attendance and loot rules, you're going to need a set policy, of course, because it will prevent arguments. But generally things like promotion, bank access, code of conduct, etc.- I think it should be a matter of common sense. As soon as you set rules down on paper, then you have people looking for loopholes in them, or who meet the specifics if not the intent of the rule.
Lets say, for example, that you have a rule about promotions where you have to be in guild 2 months (2 weeks is a very, very short time, btw, if you want rank to be worth anything). Lets say you have 3 players who join the guild at the same time. One joins, and doesn't log in for the 2 months. The second is active during the two months, but is obnoxious and doesn't really get involved with the guild. Third player is active, willing to help guildies, etc. Do all three get promoted at 2 months? If not, do you then have to write rules for every exception to the first rule, so that people don't complain?
Generally, the more "structured" a guild tries to be, in terms of setting rules about "you get promoted in X weeks, have to contribute Y gold to the bank every week, and have to offer Z% off the AH price on items you sell guildies", the more feel it's run by inexperienced players, and designed for people who need to be spoon-fed every detail of the game. Generally, the more successful guilds are the ones where you select the kinds of people who don't need to be babysat over every little detail, because they can operate on common sense.
So, if you plan to raid, then yes- have rules about attendance if you sign up, rules about loot (DKP, MS>OS, etc), and if you need to, rules about being prepared with food/flasks, etc. But if you want a list with rules about every instance that could possibly come up...you're going to spend a lot of time designing a guild people quit quickly.

Of the 2 guilds I'm in the method I prefer is
Inactive rank: people who are taking a wow-break or vacation or whatever that still want to be in guild, particularly if they will only be gone for a set period. Rank has no bank access (prevents gbank theft in case of account compromise)
Initial rank: you are there for a couple days-weeks (depends on activity) as a trial type thing, mainly just to make sure it's not a thief. this rank has no bank access just guild chat.
New Member Rank: Once they've shown they will be online and participate a wee bit they get moved here for a month or 2 to make sure they really fit in with the guild. Has some bank access.
Full Member Rank: this is where the majority of guildies should be. Once they've shown they are sticking around and participating they go here. full regular bank access.
Leadership ranks: however you ant to structure your lead ranks, most guilds have 2-3 ranks for this that I've seen.
Progression Team(optional 2 ranks): If your guild is doing both casual/lvling activities and has a seperate raid team, you can make a progression team (or arena team) rank, players are ranked up to this to access a raiders only bank tab and can also be used to toggle guild repairs if you wish to limit repair access to raid nights only. If you chose to use this system you will need a member-raider and an officer-raider rank.
note: the guild that i'm in that does this "cleans out" the progression team each xpac, everyone returns to normal member rank (or officer) and the tab is cleaned out of the previous xpacs flasks etc and who goes in the progression team is revisited once everyone is leveled up, nobody "loses" their spot but it's a good way to spring clean the team and see who is still interested in raiding.

Heres what my guild does when it comes to promotions
1. You start out as a Drone
2. For every guild achievement or help getting the guild achievment, you get 5 points. When you reach 100 points and "Friendly" with the guild, I promote you to Zergling.
3. Once your a Zergling, you work towards getting to "Honored" with your guild and deposit 100g into g bank. Then I will promote you to Hydralisk.
4. We have a "Class Leader, Ultralisk" position. It serves as an officers postion. There are only enough spots for that many classes, so 10 class leader postions. You must be "Exalted" with guild (so obviously we havent implemented class leader positions yet). Every month, anybody competing for that postion must send me an email over why they think they would be an effective class leader, and demonstrate that they know all 3 specs of the current class they are competing for. The email will be distibuted to my 4 officers and we all discuss who would get the position for that month.
Sounds like a zerg guild.
*Rolls eyes* Oh no, really?
(Oh, and if that was sarcasm, sarcasm usually doesn't go well over the internet. Just sayin'

I can easily tell you both didn't take the time to read my post carefully.

I'm slightly confused. You want answers to the questions new players ask about how the guild works...but you don't actually want advice on what makes a guild work? So...then you already know how you want it to work, but you need help answering questions about it? How would one go about helping you phrase an answer to a question, which you know the answer to and we don't, without putting any personal opinion on that the answer should be. Please elaborate, and I will be happy to help.
