Presumably the most popular way of raising funds to your guildbank, would be to run people through instances & sell the loot. Off the top of my head, TK & SSC are pretty popular, with people paying very good for some semi-easy epics.

A guild I know needed res gear for their tanks ( for Hydross ). So they annouce a special event in the channels and on the realm forums.
A s2 gladiator was standing in the outdoors arenas. Pay 10g to enter and get 50g if you beat him.
Risky but they made 1160g that day.

Try farming SWP trash... its rly not very hard if u have enuf mages ( 4/5 is mor than enuf)... My guild did it the other day and we had 14 epic gems drop which sell for upwards of 300g on our server and about 4 sunmotes which i have seen in the AH for approx 2000g. We decided to keep the sunmotes and gems for guildies but you could sell them on the AH for some quick easy cash. Spose you could also do this with BT and MH trash.
Trash farming also has the advantage of seeing rare patterns and trash drops helping your guildys to gear up/with thier profesions or making even more easy gold

Naked Gnome Race.
Have each person submit a set amount of gold to enter, everyone creates a lvl 1 gnome on some pve or pvp server and all start at Anvilmar or w/e the gnome starting place is called and race to Gadgetzan, Everlook, TB, wherever you want to. 1st gets 20%, 2nd gets 15%, 3rd gets 10%, rest(55%) to vault.
Edit: As name suggests: No armor allowed, weapons at disgression of GM.
I don't know about doing it for fund raiser, but my guild once did it and the 1,2,3 got full Tuxedo set.
For more fun make it first to get killed by a certain mob/guard.
