I have to disagree. Heroic Strike is no longer a rage dump as it was pre-The Burning Crusade. It should be used regularly as an active throttle instead of an intermittent dump.

It's just as much a rage dump as ever, you just tend to get a bit more rage to dump, so that you will be dumping rage a lot of the time. It's still the last thing you put your rage into.

I keep HS macro'd to Revenge (omg tank macro, noooo!!!1!!), between all the Devastate, SS, and Revenge, there isn't much time to hit HS. Same with Shield Block, thats macro'd to Devastate, though I still keep it on my bar to moniter the CD, I even sometimes hit the Dev/SB macro when Dev is on CD just to keep block up.

This is a pet peeve of mine, just a fair warning.
I still disagree. It's not a rage dump. If anyone is using it to dump rage, you're going about things wrong. Everyone should be using it to hold aggro intentionally, not as a byproduct of excess rage.

Hmm. I don't get it. Are you saying you would use heroic strike over other threat generating abilities?

Which ability am I replacing with Heroic Strike? Sheild slam, revenge, or devastate?
Or should I use it only when I have excess rage that I don't need to perform my normal rotations.
Should I actively use it at the expense of other abilities, or use it only to dump excess rage. Those are the only two choices.

Maybe I get what you are saying. You are saying it's not a rage dump, as in:
"I have 90 rage, I'm going to spam HS for the next 10 seconds and then ignore it again"
You are saying:
"I am at 35 rage with an active stream of rage incoming, I'm going to use HS every 2nd or 3rd white swing in order to boost threat"
I agree with you. You should be tapping HS very often throughout a fight, not all at once in order to dump a ton of rage.
However, it's still a "rage dump" in the fact that you use it when you have the rage for it, not at the expense of your GCD abilities.

That's just the thing — one doesn't have to replace anything with Heroic Strike. It co-exists peacefully. I love it.

Which is why it can be nice to use in a macro, with Revenge for instance :)

That's just the thing — one doesn't have to replace anything with Heroic Strike. It co-exists peacefully. I love it.
But if you only have a limited amount of rage, you can't do eg. a shield slam and a heroic strike at the same time. So in that case, you would be replacing a shield slam with a heroic strike.

Nope, you just simply do not add anything to Shield Slam. In other words, if one has enough rage for both abilities, then use Heroic Strike in addition to Shield Slam. It's a bonus, not a replacement, =D
Losing the bonus just puts you back at ground zero, it doesn't shove you into the negative.

You are forgetting that Heroic Strike is on the swing timer, while other abilities are instants.
No, I'm not. I'm remembering that I can't use the same rage twice just because I can cast two abilities at once (three if you include shield block). If you only have a small amount of rage, doing a heroic strike will mean that you can't do a shield slam. And that's bad.
