Awesome.
Will I be missing any of the story if I don't play those, or are they separate story lines? I don't know much about the FF universe, aside from some names and species.

Well, each game is it's own thing.....well kinda lol.
FF1 to F3 are stand alones
FF4 has the original game and the After Years(as the name says, After Years takes a few place after the original).
FF5 is stand alone.
FF6 is a stand alone.
FF7 has the original game, Crisis Core prequel(PSP game), Advent Children sequel(movie) and then Dirge of Cerberus(PS2)(so four parts).
FF8 is stand alone.
FF9 is stand alone.
FF10 and 10-2 are sequels.
FF12 has a sequel on the DS called Revenant Wings but it's also part of the Ivalice Alliance series games which include Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions(takes place several thousand years after 12) and Vagrant Story(takes place hundreds of years after Tactics).
And of course FF13 has FF13-2 too.
And then of course, there's the Dissidia series of fighting games; you can just get Dissidia 012 which has the original game packaged in with it for the PSP.

Okay, that explains some of it. I knew it was a big series, so I thought some of the numbered games were linked.
And I saw Dirge of Cerberus among the FF games, should I play that or wait until I played 7 first? I already played Crisis Core as well as War of the Lions.
I also saw a video a friend posted on FB about FF 14: A Realm Reborn. That seems quite fun, so that's another thing to add to my list once I get Internet/money.

Dirge takes places after FF7 and Advent Children so it's up to you if you want to play it first or not....though really, the only connection to those are the fact that it's Vincent Valentine and Yuffie take bigger roles; it's actually more of a sequel to Crisis Core as well, since there's a massive revelation to something from Core in regards to the primary bad guy group of Dirge.
FF14 is another online game like 11; and Realm Reborn is the massive overhaul of FF14.

Wait until you've played the main games before the others, in pretty much every case, I'd say. I can't remember how much of 7 is spoiled in Cerberus (which isn't that much of a great game but oh well), but I'm guessing at least the ending.
Post by
Adamsm
Nah, Advent Children ruined more of the ending of FF7...it's just who one of the big bads of Dirge is that a portion of the ending from 7 can be effected.

FF9 and FF3 were definitely a movers for me. I've played them all, but those two I will play again, and again.
I'd also play FF12 again. I completed the beastiary in full in that with no help at all. That was some of the most fun I ever had playing any FF.

Should be getting AC: Revelations on Friday. I am behind on games to play.
I have Saints Row 3 next on the list, but not sure if I should play Fallout 3 after that or start FF 10/10-2. There's also Far Cry 3 to play and the Mass Effect series.
I am really behind on game playing.
Post by
Skithus
Revelations was ok, basically just more brotherhood.
Saints row 3 my favorite of the series, very funny.
FF10 was great, FF10-2 was trash
You could probably finish all of the other games on this list in the same time it would take you to go from Beginning of Mass-Effect 1 to the end of Mass Effect 3

I liked brotherhood. But I went straight to AC3 and didn't play revelations. Figured I should go back and play it.
Side note, AC4 is planned for 2014. It's going to be a new main character in a new area and time frame. But I haven't heard much else about it.
I also haven't played the other Saints Row games, but playing the most recent is probably the best.
Might just start with the ME games after SR3. Not that big into the FF games anyway.

I find it really hard to go back to older 3d games from like the ps1/ ps2 era. Or else I'd go back and play ff12 because I never beat it, but I enjoyed what I did play of it.

Go way back and play some Lunar.

So I saw a few commercials for Crysis 3, as well as the Gamefly lists, and it looks pretty fun.
Was wondering if anyone has played the first 2, and if I should play them before playing the third.
And hax posted a vid if Destiny in the RB, a new game from Bungie. It looks interesting, but I'll wait until more is revealed to have a better opinion.

I have a similar problem, I guess modern graphics have spoiled me a bit.
I have a hard time going back to more....... primitive graphics, unless I actually played that game back when those graphics were cutting edge stuff.
For example, Metal Gear Solid 1 looks like crap today, but it was by far and wide THE most awesome game you could play on the PS1. Since I played it when it was current stuff, I have no problem going back and replaying it, but the same can't be said about Resident Evil 1. I just no matter how hard I try, CANNOT bring myself to play it. Why? because I never played it back when it was current, so, nostalgia isn't there to make it easier to swallow the primitive visuals.
Same goes for this other game called Alice Madness Returns. Its a beautiful (And scary as FRICK) game from 2009, looks amazing even today, but its a sequel to "American McGee's Alice". Now, Madness Returns came with a copy of the first game included, so you could play both and catch up with the plot.
I got that game about 2 years ago, and I honest-to-god TRIED to play the first game before playing the sequel, so I could better understand the plot. But the first game is a game from 1998, with Quake 1 graphics :S its impossible to bear those today.
Having said that, Half-Life 1, which has equally primitive graphics, I can still play it today without it feeling like a chore.
Nostalgia can go a long way into easing these type of things.
So I saw a few commercials for Crysis 3, as well as the Gamefly lists, and it looks pretty fun.
Was wondering if anyone has played the first 2, and if I should play them before playing the third.
You should. The game is FLABBERGASTINGLY FUN (and yes, that is a real word, I'm saving my special words for games that actually earn them) Both Crysis 1 and 2 are among the most fun shooters I've ever played. It feels like you're playing "Predator" by using the cloak system to ambush the enemy, the graphics are THE most advanced ones you'll ever see in a PC title, the soundtrack (particularly on Crysis 2) is awesome, and the characters were pretty good.
The first title suffered from a few problems, but its still even today ridiculously future-proof. If you got a PC (and Crysis 1 is a PC exclusive title, I don't recall it ever being released in consoles unless I missed something) that can handle Crysis 1 with everything at max settings, you don't need to worry about updating it for future games in a while.
And hax posted a vid if Destiny in the RB, a new game from Bungie. It looks interesting, but I'll wait until more is revealed to have a better opinion.
Bah, all interest I had in that game evaporated when I saw that its not gonna be on PC. Period.
Playing Dishonored, wow, after the first 2 missions (the one where you escape through the sewers and the one where you assassinate that cleric) getting a no-kill and no-detection playthrough is quite hard.
I even had an accidental kill on the first mission because I used a tranq dart on a guard, who then fell on the river and drowned........ while I wasn't looking >_> had to repeat the whole thing just to avoid that one mistake.
This is gonna take me a while. Also, I couldn't get the english version of Dishonored, so I'm gonna have to settle for the spanish one (I love my language, but game companies have this nasty habit of using THE WORST IMAGINABLE ACTORS EVER for their dubs, probably to save money, only the english customers matter I guess). At least they use a more international spanish instead of that god-awful castillian-spanish full of accents and spaniard phrases I can't even begin to understand.
I also got from a friend Batman Arkham City, and it was also in spanish but unlike Dishonored, this one is in castillian-spanish and MY EARS WERE BLEEDING just listening to that s***tty spaniard actor voicing Batman. It was horrible. Thankfully I'm a genius and through a clever workaround I was able to switch the game to english. (Edited the config file, and renamed the localized spanish files so the game would be forced to use the english files instead).
I R GENIUS

Yeah I don't think I'll get a game for the PC, mine both suck. But I'll see what I can do.
And yeah, Dishonored is quite hard. Save often. It even tells you to in the loading hints. I beat the game in a few hours, but that was just going through and killing. Planning and having to restart if you screw up makes it a lot longer.
But every mission has an option that lets you complete it without killing the target, if there is a target. I ended up doing it on the mission before last without knowing it, but it was fun either way.
I only wish that either the maps were bigger, or there were more maps.
And I know the guy your speaking of. I jumped down and strangled him, and he falls in the water right there. What's funny was he just got done pissing in it right before I got him.
And that sucks to hear about it not coming on the PC, I know how much you love playing in the PC. And I don't blame you, I would like to have a good PC to play on. Not only do you get most main stream games, but you can get those gems that don't get a lot if advertising.

Well, Crysis 2 is also on the consoles, I'm just not sure about the first one. Then again you get a nice recap of the first one so you could just get 2 and go from there.

I'm used to that. Haven't you ever played any of the Hitman games? ohh boy, I had to restart SO MUCH on that one. To get the perfect ranking, you can't kill ANYONE but your target, you also can't be detected, can't produce any alarms, and can't leave any evidence behind such as your suit or your custom-weapons. Easier said than done, I first finished the game with an average "ghost" rating before I went in for the "Silent Assassin" highest rating. I think I'll do the same here. Finish it like a thug, then once I'm more familiarized with each layout, go for a perfect playthrough.
But every mission has an option that lets you complete it without killing the target, if there is a target. I ended up doing it on the mission before last without knowing it, but it was fun either way.
Bah, wouldn't that defeat the point of the game? I mean these people ruined your life, and you will just let them walk away scot free? Unless they get SOME sort of punishment I don't think I'll spare the lives of any of the main targets. Guards are another thing, I'll spare as many as I can.
I only wish that either the maps were bigger, or there were more maps.
Indeed, a game like this, on a full open world sandbox like Assassin's Creed would be AWESOME.
And I know the guy your speaking of. I jumped down and strangled him, and he falls in the water right there. What's funny was he just got done pissing in it right before I got him.
I know rite? >_> stupid bastard, I had to restart a full level because of him, second run I strangled him then tapped F to auto-carry him and carefully deposit him away from the damned river.
And that sucks to hear about it not coming on the PC, I know how much you love playing in the PC. And I don't blame you, I would like to have a good PC to play on. Not only do you get most main stream games, but you can get those gems that don't get a lot if advertising.
Not only that, PC games get better optimization and if your rig is good, WAY BETTER graphics than their console counterparts, but the true selling point of the PC is the modding community. Once a game starts earning fans, they'll do anything to mod it to their hearts content and add awesome features or even full blown total-conversion mods.
Console players will never be able to play stuff like Nehrim or Nameless God, nor will they ever have a Skyrim as customized and improved as PC users get. THIS is the main reason why, if a game is available on PC and Console, I'll go for the PC by default. The only reason I even want to (one day eventually) buy a PS3 is because those damned japanese refuse to release anything on PC.
XBOX, 9 out of 10 games there make it to the PC sooner or later. But good luck trying to see a nintendo or playstation game ever making it to the PC.
Edit: Also I realized why I had a sense of "Deja Vu" when playing Dishonored. Turns out the lead art designer was the same guy who did all the artwork for Half-Life 2 :P
No wonder the game looked so familiar in the architecture and technology.
