The new Star Trek is really good! I liked it even better than the last one. Zach Quinto was great as Spock, and I really liked the guy they got to play Khan as well.
OF COURSE YOU DID.
Benedict Cumberbatch is a god among men.

I guess my one complaint is that the ending was kind of a watered down version of what happened in Wrath of Khan. They had Kirk die in the exact same way that Spock did in the movie, but since they were able to save him 10 minutes later it wasn't nearly as emotional
That being said it really didn't detract from my movie experience at all, I just would have taken things in a slightly different direction.

Idk if I would really call this whitewashing for two reasons. First is that they kept the other ethnic roles within their ethnicity with Sulu and Uhura, so at the very least I don't think it was their intention to bleach the films.
Then again if they made Sulu white then JJ Abrams would have a million Trekkie nerds declaring a Jihad on him.
Second is, like I said, I just thought he did an awesome job in the role. The look on his face during this one scene "You should have LET ME SLEEP" *Crunch*.
After watching this movie I'm also expecting big things from Zachary Quinto over the next few years. So many people just know him as 'that guy from Heroes', but he was genuinely creepy in the second season of American Horror Story, and these movies show he can play the good guy really well also. I think he's a really underrated actor.

Yea he was the guy who played
Leatherface
Bloodyface. I thought he was good in Heroes as well, but it depresses me how bad that show got after such a promising first season.
The fact that I mentioned Wrath of Khan probably doesn't help with the spoiler thing Xp

It does depend though how they dealt with the casting, which I know nothing about. They could've genuinly looked for indian actors and just felt that Benedict suited it better.
I bet this is what happens for
some
* of them. They could look for Asian/Indian/etc. ethnicity but find a white guy to play that role much better. This may even be the case for that old movie where some famous actor ended up playing an Asian role, not sure what the name of the movie was but I'm sure someone around here will. They could have spent months trying to find someone, or just get someone they knew could act.
Let me ask, would you rather a proper actor of ethnic authenticity that couldn't act his way onto a grade school play or a white actor that was much better than the rest? And if you chose the authentic actor, would you turn around and complain about his acting?
*Note: I said
some
, not
all
roles.

I'm not saying there are no good Indian actors, but I don't really know of a lot of Indian actors to begin with.
About the only one I know off the top of my head is Lou Diamond Phillips, and that is mainly because I saw him on a cooking series a while ago.
I also found
this
on the IMDB page (I love reading the trivia on movies). Of course I looked and the actors they have listed are either Mexican, Venezuelan or Spanish.
And to be fair they are quite similar to Native Americans, I noticed because in AC3 they use that as an excuse for Connor's skin color.
And according to this: Cumberbatch's character was not revealed to the actor until a week after he was cast. A studio representative flew to London from LA with the script handcuffed to his wrist. he didn't even know who he was playing as. I also found that Spielberg suggested Cumberbatch to Abrams after working with him on Super 8. And idk about you but I wouldn't ignore Spielberg lol.
And I'm not a Star Trek fan, so I don't know much about it. But is Khan described as Native American, or is it just the actor that first played him?
Edit: Well as I said I don't know much about Star Trek and that is true, I went and looked and I saw that when you say Indian you meant those from India and not NA. I saw that it says "Khan is a genetically engineered superhuman Sikh from the Asian continent" And with that I confused myself quite a bit, heh. I'll just strike those out and leave the rest.

Yeah I just saw that, like I said I know little about Star Trek.
It's worse that he doesn't know who he was playing as cause then he obviously wasn't picked because he was perfect for the role, though he might still have been.
That just sounds weird to me, idk why. At first you're saying he wasn't perfect then turn around and say he might be perfect.
But they pretty much had most of the cast filled already due to the previous movie, and once Cumberbatch was recommended Abrams needed a role for him. So he gave the antagonist to him, which was the best role in his opinion.
And if you like you can just think of it as one of those "time travel-alternate reality concept" things that popped up in the last movie to explain why this Khan is a British man. But that might be a stretch lol.

So Elura, the original Khan was played by a
Mexican guy
. Is that bad, since it's denying the role to an actual Indian, or is it okay because he's not white?

In comics Nick Fury was white for 40 years until the Ultimate spin-off reintroduced him as a black guy modeled after Samuel L. Jackson. Was that wrong?
Maybe I'm just used to it in comics, but I have no problems with spin-offs bringing in different races, genders, or any other number of things.

I'm not sure why you mentioned Indians(native I am guessing) since they are not synonymous with Mexicans. I agree though that so long as the spirit of a character is honored its not really necessary to get it ethnically right on the dot. Those sorts of things change all the time(in movie adaptions/remakes). Generally a much bigger deal is made of it though when its a white guy being substituted for what had been a non white role before.

In the Star Trek universe, Khan is Indian (India, Indian). The actor that played Khan originally was a Mexican.
I was saying that it's denying the role to an Indian to play an Indian character.

So the current word on the Justice League movie:
They're still trying to get Nolan to direct, but he says he wants to keep the Batman and Superman projects he's working on in their own continuity, but Christian Bale says he will come back as Batman if Nolan directs. They also said Zack Snyder would be offered the directing job if Man of Steel does well.
I'm personally hoping they can convince Nolan to direct.

Thing is though, the Marvel Verse movies are based on the Ultimate version, so it made sense to have him black this time...that and you know, the main stream Fury now has a holographic body model that is SLJ heh.
