From the protadin thread on the Elitist Jerks forums; the gavel over the continuum blade because of the spell damage but obviously the S2 mace over both of them for the spell damage, spell hit and resilience.
that's only for threat generation
assuming
you have enough mana over the whole time
if you're using JoW, Continuum blade is better due to more procs, and more mana returned, it may lead to more damage overall
but that's only in long fights where you need a bit of mana
resilience does nothing btw if you're defense capped

Hmmm, I think the weap speed would make up for the lack of spell damage. And as blademeld pointed out, will improve your judged seal's effectiveness. When I was leveling as prot, I would go for weaker dps weaps with fast speed. I could JoL and stay alive forever, and just grind em down. As a tank, the more SoR procs, the more threat you do. So ya, I would go with continuum blade as well. 2.7 on the gavel is just too slow to make much of anything useful.

2.7 speed ---> Awesome for SoV. And when weapon gives the most of your spelldamage, I suggest getting a weapon with as much dmg as possible.

Well even
Gladiator's Gavel
is imo better than both of those and imo a lot easier to get, so cant see whats so difficult in choosing.

There is no date. Maybe 2 months, maybe next year.... It will probably be a while tho. S3 just started a few months ago, so probably at earliest fall would be my guess.
It's also under debate whether they will patch 2.4 before WotLK also, so that may be useless info as well. Just get your gear and complain about it when it happens like the rest of us. LOL =D

If you have reckoning you will never see the full effect of it with the gavel because of the weapon speed. But because seal of vengeance is proc per minute based, you will proc on almost every hit with it. I believe its a 20 ppm seal and you will have 22 swings so only 2 swings per minute you won't see the proc. At least that is what I read.
I liked the sword because of the shield block rating. Its only 7.9 or 8 shield block rating for 1% avoidance, which came in really handy trying to get uncrushable.
But honestly you should go for one of the arena maces. Everyone who has one of those never really has any problem with people pulling aggro. Unless they are just stupid.
But as for when season 4 comes out, who knows. Season 2 was out for about 6 months, I think. And blizzard kept season 2 for long than they anticipated. So we might see season 4 sooner than we think. But the thing I am wondering is what gear are they going to use? Each seasons gear is basically T4 5 or 6 gear with different colors and pvp stats. Its just my opinion but I think that S4 will come out when T7 comes out, which my guess is in the next expansion. I would just get the S1 mace. It works out good enough. Pvp maces aren't the ONLY ones you can get. There are others that you can start to get later on if you start raiding.

Yes, you lose 1 swing of reckoning, but the counter-argument here is that you hit harder per swing which makes up for that lost reckoning. It's been proven in theory that a slower weapon gets about the same damage out of reckoning as a faster weapon does.
Yes, Seal of Vengeance is 20 PPM, but that does not mean that it will not proc twice per minute, PPM only determines chance to proc rather than guaranteeing it. An example would be Seal of Command and a 3.6 second swinger. It has a 7 PPM but that doesn't mean that it misses 10/17 times per minute, rather, it translates to 42% proc, which means that you can get 17/17 per minute or 0/17 per minute.
Continuum blade has spell hit, not block rating.
The tank isn't always to blame for aggro control, if there are trigger happy DPS... to hell with it ;)

Definitely. Nice amount of stamina, some int, block rate, good spelldmg, fast... No wonder best tankading sword before you go epic (and yet better than many epics).

Not always, CoT rep one is better if you're already uncrushable, since block is the migation being pushed off the attack table
