Enhancement sucks?!....

Ok, I've been 70 for about a month now and have gotten some tier 4 pieces plus some random glad/vindicator gear. I've been enhancement from 1-70. Don't get me wrong im not SUPER geared as I basically just play to PvP and have fun.
Lately my guild hasn't been inviting me to raids because "enhancement shamans don't do any damage not near as much as elemental, they are only used for totems". This is odd to me as I have ranked on DPS charts, and even in small instances (5-10 man) I will rank above or right under elemental shamans. We have two enhancement shamans, and if they DO take one of us - they take the fella with a 1.8 spd offhand because he is favored amoung the guild. Which from what I have read here 2.6 spd gets the most dps out of WF..
I PvP more then anything, I have a 2v2 team with my wife who plays a mage. We win some and lose some, and we both are new to the arena so are learning how things go. My RL buddy is leveling a feral drood which I heard is a pretty wicked combo for 2v2 as well (enh + feral drood). Besides getting kited from mages, if you are ontop of your game you can turn some battles around. However, I have talked with numerous shamans both ele and enh and they both mention each spec requires GEAR to be good. Basically my question is elemental really that great? How is it better then enhancement? This game is ruled by who has the best gear, not to mention if you are ranged you had an advantage as well..
I don't really enjoy playing casters which is why I picked enhancement, but some of the folks in my guild say enh shamans don't do any damage. I am all for guild improvement, but to change my way of playing for an account I pay for seems not worth it.
Whats everyones input on enh? Why does it suck, and is ele SO much better?

I guess don't get me wrong, I don't expect to do amazing dps and rule everyone. I know shamans have abit of a hard time with no CC and all, but whole ordeal saying we do no DPS is what got me. Which 'enhancement= ENHANCES the group'. But I do my fair share of ripping people apart.
I am on the Mal'Ganis realm, name is same as this account if you want to see my armory. Its not great, but I think I am doing decent. Working on some glad gloves/helm and dorys embrace cloak right now. The guild isn't helping though by not letting me go on certain raids because enhancement shamans suck and do no damage.

I've done some raiding lately after talking with the raid officer and I've stayed in the top 7 at the least with all of our geared mages. We had a enhancement shaman that respec'd to ele and started all over with gear and he was able to hold a top 10 spot easy. Then again ranged has an advantage over everyone else.
How is elemental compared over pvp with enhancement? It seems elemental is more burst damage then enhancement with the 100% to crit plus a natures swiftness lighting bolt after the intial attack.
