Vindicator bracers are better than the ones off supremus, due to the socket. Any red spell damage gem, when placed in the socket makes them roughly equal to or better than the supremus bracers.
And yes, the options of elemental bracers really suck if you just want to stick to mail.
Check around for some leather or cloth ones :/
