Or...for the same amount, you just pay for a retail copy of the game, and get the restrictions lifted that way.
The Stater account is there for the purpose of whetting your interest in the World of Warcraft; if you want the full thing, pay up.

Wait what? You don't have to pay 15 euros per month with a retail copy?
You do...however, what you want to do here is 'buy' the Starter account, which has specific restrictions in place to keep gold spammers from creating hundreds of them and using them to spam zones with yells and the like.
Especially since your purchase price is the same as retail is right now; might as well just get the real thing and leave the Starter in the dust.
As for being a Roleplayer: Since a large majority of Roleplay happens at all levels, expansions and zones, it would make more sense to get up there so you can experience it all. And of course, a guild is always a good idea to have when role playing, since it allows you to meet more people who want to experience and roleplay the game as you do.
I currently have an active Starter account and an inactive Retail account; but at this point I am burned out on the starter and I want nothing more then to get back to retail. If I paid for a starter as well, I'd feel 'pressured' to play on it, since other wise it would be 'wasted' money....yet, the real game will always be in Retail.
If you truly can't afford the monthly price, save up some cash and buy multiple game time cards, then you only have to have that money every few months. I know that's how I plan to do it from now on, probably buying a new card a month till I have a nice built up subscription time that I don't have to worry about showing up on my credit card.

That is all for now. Please note that these ideas are coming from a guy who has never experienced the full version of the game.
And right there you lose. There is no reason Blizzard should let players have more access who have no interest in ever paying for anything. There are plenty of failed MMOs that have gone Free2Play that will give you plenty of gameplay in hopes that someday you will spend some real money, WOW is not one of them. They have quality content and expect you to pay for it.
The purpose of the starter edition is to give you enough time to whet your appetite and decide the game is for you. It is not so that you can play indefinitely and have fun. And let´s be frank, if you buy a normal box game, you are lucky to get 30-40 hours of gameplay out of it. The wow starter edition, for true new players, offers at least that... for free... A new player will take at least 20-30 hours leveling up one character to 20.. and then you still have many other races and starting zones.
Try Dungeons and Dragons Online, in my opinion it is by far the best free2play game. You can get 100´s of hours of entertainment without paying anything. It is my ´fall-back´ game when WOW goes awhile without new content.

Did you notice the "
For a small one time fee (20-30 euros?) the player could upgrade his/her account and lift some restrictions...
" part?
Again though...why do that, when for the same price you can just get Retail.

No, it's sometimes 14ish or 16ish euros counting on how euros compare to dollars at the momment.

What does that have to do with anything? If he's paying in euros he doesn't care what the dollar is worth (hint: it's worth ~0.768€). It was a long time since the dollar was worth anywhere near what the euro is.
The gap between the prices is in part because there's a tax for it in the EU (European Union E-commerce Directive 2002/38/EC, Regulation 792/2002) but not in the US (as far as I know).

What is with all these ftp want more threads popping up. If you want to be able to access the full game, pay the money. If you are not going to pay, then be happy with your level 20 cap and the restrictions.
Blizzard has explained why they have the FTP accounts the way they are for a reason, and no begging, pleading, or whining is going to make them change it anytime soon.

If you want to say something OOC, why not use the double parentheses method in /say ((like every other MMO community))?

To be honest the restrictions are pretty stringent by F2P standards though.

That's true, but that's because it's not a F2P/Freemium game, but an extended free trial. There is no micro-transaction ladder for you to climb (kind of like what the OP was suggesting) you either buy the game and pay the subscription or you don't.
I think people forget or weren't aware the trial used to be only 14 days and still had a lot of the current restrictions in place. They're giving away a lot by letting people have unlimited time to play the trial.

I think a big part of the problem is the way I see it advertised on several sites. Blizz has ads all over the place now with "
NOW FREE TO PLAY
" in large lettering and "up to level 20", and "restrictions apply" in the fine print.

I should've rephrased that. Pretty much all MMOs have better free-to-play options.
In addition, as I mentioned in a previous thread suggesting that WoW's F2P needs to have some restrictions lifted, with the current restrictions a new player doesn't even remotely experience some of the core aspects of the game (excluding end-game, of course).

This too.
