Kaestan thought he liked this woman. No nonsense, to the point... until she made the cattle comment. The elf scoffed, crossing his hands over his chest and waiting for her to proceed.
"Cows? Pah," Meeba piped, rolling her eyes. Some people just needed to lighten up. But boy, she sure was hungry.

Leo eyed the gnomes warily. "Okay...would have been nice to know where the door is..." That being said, Leo nevertheless entered the portal. Though not without considerable repetition.
Heraldus narrowed his eyes a fraction at Richard's demonstration. Pushing his glasses back up his nose, he too stepped through the portal into the technomagic wing.

A brilliant move on Joaquin's part. A bit unpleasant, perhaps, but in that simple gesture, he had almost certainly secured the trust and friendship of the other boy.
The Arthur fellow seemed like a difficult person to manipulate, but more observation needed to be done.
Callyx could barely restrain a small grin when the intructor compared them to cattle.
"Where shall we be staying?" Callyx finally asked. "I should like to put my things away."

Character:
Veraldine, Arthur, Miss Skivvers
Location:
Mage Tower
Miss Skivver's grabbed a hood from her back and pulled it up to shadow her face. She crooked a finger to follow before shoving both hands into her sleeves as she stepped through a large door from which sunshine streamed. Outside was the ledge running the circumference of the tower seen from the ships. A small wall curved up to keep the stupid from falling off. A soft breeze brushed against Vera as she stepped outside, breathing in heavily and sighing, the acrid stench of someone else's rejected lunch soon dissipating from her nose.
Miss Skivvers faced away from the sunlight, losing even more of her features in darkness. She gestured with her head at eight different coloured orbs which rested on the tower's lip. As she began to make a circuit about the pathway around the tower, she listed off each of the seven of which corresponded to a different floating towers. "These orbs will take you to the different towers. Abjuration," she said, passing by a red stone with a rune for abjuration carved on it. "Conjuration," a blue stone, "Divination," a pure white, "Enchantment," a green stone, "Transmutation," a golden orb, "Evocation," a purple stone, "and Illusion," she finished speaking when they passed an odd sphere which seemed to change colours whenever one looked away.
She led the students back to the door, passing by a final orb which was blackened as if dead, the rune which named it absent as if someone had scratched it out. As well, no tower floated in mid air like the others. Vera gave this stone an inquiring and intrigued look but, when realization seemed to dawn she promptly hurried past.
Arthur gave the black rock a sharp and understanding look as he passed by and stopped in front of the door with the rest of the class

It was immediately clear that the last orb had to represent necromancy. Callyx planned to stay well away from that one, at least for now. It was no doubt covered in traps and alarms.
Assuming the teacher hadn't heard the question, or had heard it and had chosen not to respond, Callyx merely followed along. Repeating the question seemed like a bad move.

Character
: Siber Antares, Stefan Meszaros

: Battle
Shortly after the last student went through the dimensional door, it faded out of existence, leaving the Hall that much dimmer for the absence of its glowing. Stefan continued to contemplate the stone sphere, paying seemingly no heed to his charges as they finished forming three orderly lines.
Eventually, one of them - a squat, thickset human youth standing in the front row next to Grintham - spoke up, rather boldly, "Hey, Mister, what's going to happen now?"
A thunderous, impossibly loud crack shattered the air, overriding any and all idle chat between the students. One moment the Taskmaster had his back turned to the course, the second he was facing the one to speak, his dark eyes boring into the boy's skull.
His barbed lash was wrapped now around the youngster's neck, stifling any possible cries of pain. The boy's immediate neighbors found drops of his blood splat on them when the instrument of torture bit into his flesh.
"And you thought my lash is just for show, Androw Kavendish," Stefan spoke, his thin lips stretching into a hungry smirk. Never did his voice grow even a little bit louder. "Remember this, students: you will show proper respect to ever member of the faculty. Be it a humble janitor or the lauded headmaster himself, regardless of their rank and gender, when speaking to someone so above your worthless self, the first and the last word to leave your mouth will be 'Sir', and it will be loud."
Androw gagged and wheezed, struggling not to fall to his knees.
"Consider this the beginning of your education, children," Stefan continued, raising his his left hand, the lash held firmly in the right. As he spoke, he bent his fingers for every point he made.
"Never underestimate a potential threat. Always prepare for the worst. Accept that from this day forward, pain shall be your constant companion. And remember - in presence of your betters, silence is golden, unless stated otherwise."
The pallid Taskmaster wiggled his hand, easing the pressure on Androw's throat just enough for him to gasp loudly.
"Now, students, let us see if my lessons are getting through. Do I have now your complete and undivided attention, class?" he asked softly.
"Sir, yes, sir!" Siber barked.

"Now," the old woman began, pointing towards the tower they had come from, "your dorms have been separated to male and female. The boys will reside in the upper floor of the main mage tower, girls in the lower." Miss Skivvers hissed, putting her hand back into her sleeves sharply, as if burned by the daylight "The doors leading to them connect from the cafeteria. You will now be assigned your keys to the rooms."
She extended her arms. Small, almost translucent blue orbs with a darker slit like a cats eye, though it was shaped more like a keyhole than crack poured from her sleeves. They zipped towards the students, one finding each and seeming to look at them expectantly. "They are the keys to your rooms and will register themselves to your arcane signature," Miss Skivvers continued, folding her arms against her chest again. "They are also tools to spy on you, and can be used to track your coming and going in the school. If you try to tamper with them, they will explode. As it stands, the school board has generously decided to give you the rest of today off. Therefore you may grow accustomed to your new lodgings now, and tomorrow begin the slow monotonous crushing of your souls. Dinner has been served in the cafeteria. Go now!" She threw her arms out as if banishing the students back inside the tower.
Arthur grimaced slightly as his 'key' floated about him, scrutinizing him, watching him, its iris seeming to expand and contract with focus. Light that thing was creepy.
Vera's did nothing of the sort. Hers eyed her for a moment until she grabbed it and tucked it into her pocket casually. Keys huh? Should be fun figuring out how to cheat that she thought with a grin. "Come on!" she said, grabbing Eryan and dragging him towards the stairs. "I want to see what they served up!"

Mage Tower
Arcane
Huanei paused a moment, noticing the seemingly broken orb, and the lack of a tower floating beyond.
Leaning past, she scanned the ground for any sign of rubble, thinking the tower which one taught whatever the orb represented may have crashed into the earth at some point. She saw no such rubble however, and was left only more confused about the strange orb.
She looked up at her wyrm, the creature cocking its head. "I don't know." The girl admitted with a shrug.
She suddenly jumped as her key found her: eying her in a manner not unlike the mana wyrm commonly did. "Great, now I have to deal with two of you..." She mumbled, snatching the orb from the air.
Gulping, she slowly her way towards the cafeteria, not sure what else she might do.

Relieved from his burden by the bard, Eryan followed Vera. "They better have a lot of food waiting for us. I think I could eat a Threshadon," he commented dreamily.

Vera laughed as she dragged Eryan down the spiral staircase. She stopped on the bottom floor, surveying the cafeteria.
Food was indeed waiting. And a great deal of it as well. In long display cases along the walls of the room's rear were trays of food laid out in a buffet style. Steam rose from steaks, beef, pasta, stew pots, cakes, and countless other foods brought from all over and here for the students enjoyment. Plates and bowls laid at the end of these cases, awaiting the new students use and gleaming in the light of several large chandeliers which flickered dreamily above.
Paintings of scenery and long banners decked the walls regally and surrounded the room with their venerable presence, reminding the students that though it may have only recently re-opened, this building had history behind it indeed.
In the center of the room ran several long oak tables and benches. Silverware had already been laid out and spaced evenly apart for impending use, and it appeared the napkins had been folded to look like swans. Two doors other than the one Vera had come from sat at opposite ends of the hall, each with a visage carved into the stone above. One unmistakeably male and wearing a laurel, with a long flowing stone beard and venerable if stormy chiseled features. The other a young woman smiling tenderly, with long hair made of serpents fairly cascading along the sides of the door from their perch. Both visages had only one eye, the other an empty socket.
"Ooooh! Eryan look!" Vera cried, pointing at one of the buffet tables. "They have worg steak! I haven't had that in ages!"

Callyx stood outside the cafeteria, and was listening quietly to a boy quietly panicking as he looked for a key. The key itself was held tightly in Callyx's hand. It had been a gamble, but hopefully it would pay off if the instructors didn't find out.
Finally Callyx entered the cafeteria, looking around at the others. It would be important to gain the favor of whichever proved to be the most potent and malleable clique.

"Welcome to the techno dormitory. The door over there will lead you to two more doors. The blue one will lead you downstairs to your rooms while the red will enter into the main floor of the school where you will find the cafeteria the library and the other classrooms." He said and stood up.
"And now for a few rules. First rule is that you are free to create anything you want within this room. These books contain every facet of information pertaining to engineering and you are free to use them however you wish all I ask is that if you are going to use anything that explodes please either get me or another teacher to supervise so you don't kill yourself. Behind the portal that will close soon you will find a set of doors that will lead to a part house that you will be using during your studies. If you take anything from there please tell the mechagnome at the door so it may be replaced so other students may use it." He said pausing for a second to make sure the students where paying attention.

Kimberly Fraser
The Hall of Two Paths
Awesome,
was Kim's only thought when the rules pertaining the battle magic students were being read. Disgust at the overly cruel treatment of the boy she now knew was called Androw Kavendish (she thought that rules had to be explained before you could break them) was thoroughly replaced by great expectation, and when the cue came she heartily called "Sir!" in acknowledgement of the rules and authority.
This was going to be her one great opportunity in life, and she wasn't going to spoil it. She was going to be the best.
Theo Beckett
Mage Tower
Theo had already gotten his bowl and with it carefully tucked under his arm he paced between the tables, surveying them for the best dishes. Dinner company came second, he thought. The hunt ended when he found a huge pot of split pea soup.
He sat down in front of it, not minding that there wasn't a soul close by, and scooped himself an extra large helping of steaming hot soup.
