have gotten 1 in almost 3 levels, tho I've found several outdoor chests containing blue items, gold and cloth. Got it in Hyjal if i remember right.

Flame-scarred junkboxes
. You'll have better luck finding these from mobs in the Twilight Highlands or troggs in Deepholm than you will in the entry-level zones.
You can pull lots of 'em from mobs in heroics as well.

If you are a miner, you will be very happy in Elementium Depths.
Tons of nodes and Twilight Miners to pickpoket. I macro mine to sap, so I just run around sapping/pickpocketing between nodes.
each pass I end up with a nice amount of junkboxes. One of them yielded the epic throwing knife SPINERENDER.

Hundreds of boxes picked here, and still no purples for my poor rogue. :(
