The gear is inferior to heroic drops, the farming is ridiculous, the spurs and weapon chains don't sell any more... except for fury warriors and a few other specs, is there any point to blacksmithing post-BC?

IMO: No. Level 70 Warrior, BS 375 I have only seen one really useful piece as an upgrade (Boots of the Protect which is a pally piece) that was even better than previously acquired blues. I use the sharpening stones and that's about it.
For some unexplained reason, I keep waiting for Blizz to come out with some really useful BS patterns, especiallly for Armorsmiths, though that has yet to happen. Then the question becomes...
Will it get better when WotLK arrives? Unless the design gets, what we in the industry call a clue, the obvious answer is, don't hold your breath.
I am seriously thinking of taking up Engineering or Jewelcrafting to compliment my Mining. At this level, Jewelcrafting is probably the most useful since I have already established Exalted status with many of the outland factions.

my warrior is a BS just so i can get a weapon that looks like a dragon head. otherwise, i would agree that BSing is a bad prof.

The Tier-3 weapon is now available to non-raiding players.
So basicly, BS is a gold black hole that will vomit a kick-ass weapon to your face. Pricey but some players got that money.
