Best way to get Gems?

Well, I'm around the middle of level 64 now, and I've noticed that a lot of the armor that dops in instances has sockets on it. I am wondering what is the best way to get good gems to socket things with?
I know I can buy the cheap ones from vendors, but I am thinking about more powerful gems (maybe not for now, but for I'm 70 for sure). Thanks in advanced.

Well the only ways to get gems are:
Quests (very few of these exist, but they do exist)
Prospecting (requires you to be a JC yourself)
Mining
Drops/Chests/Etc.
More or less if you're not a miner or JC you're going to have to buy at least the uncut ones and get them cut (or purchase the already cut ones). This is doubly so for blue quality and higher gems as they get progressively harder to find out in the game world.

Thanks, I was also wondering, are the gems in the Hall of Legends pvp store good?

Yes. Some of them are very good, actually. For example I have an AP gem (
Bold Ornate Ruby
) I've been using in my gloves for several months now.

Just grab green gems off the Auction House. Shouldn't run you more than 1-2g each. Don't worry about getting blue gems until you're 70 and have a piece that you're going to have for a long time.

For some of the lower gems, if you do a certain amount of Consortium Quests you get a gem 'paycheck'.

. I know he's in Nagrand, but you'll have to dig the rest up yourself. :).Yeah, I always forget to pick mine up.
