Anything that can run directly from the addonfolder without additional applications are allowed to use. If blizzard finds the addon unfair, they'll make it unusable.

It's perfectly legal- if an addon can do it, you're in the clear. In this particular case, the addons in question were explicitly cleared by a CM, though I'm not going to go digging for hte post.

About addons and whats legal according to the Blizzard terms of use, the most recent additions to the Blizzard terms of use states that "any third party software or addon that changes the "world of warcraft experience" are grounds for closure of the account in question and results in a permanent ban" so for your own sake, consider very carefullly what you choose to do. And yes i know that something similar have been in the terms of use for quite some time without any action have been taken.. but i recently talked to a "game master" in the in game support system, and he did state that they are working on taking action against player and gold sellers that use third party software that "alters the world of warcraft experience" . I think you get my point.. dont be a fool.. consider very carefully what you choose to do both when it comes to third party software /addons, and gold sellers. I personally dont belive in using either.. and people might consider me a fool for not doing so. but im not going to change that im not using addons or third party software or goldsellers in any way shape or form, as i am strongly against them. Those things are for people that dont want to work hard to earn what they get.. its the way of the chicken. but you make up your mind... this is just my point of view - - - Malagorn out.
as said above you are jump too far to conclusions that just look foolish. Addons are not considered third party software. They work within the client because blizzard lets the, they even help the authors with issues and change the client API to better manage those addons. This is what lead to the up coming changes to the combat log analyzers and there being a new direct feed of that log so it doesn't have to be parsed from the log it self. Addons simply fill gaps that blizzard's default client leaves gaping.

Correct and they have pretty much throttled the client in such a way nothing can be done that they frown on. I used to use the auto travel addon and babblefish (horde to alliance translation from /s) the requirements those addons were limited when they announced that the game playing for it's self and translations were against the EULA.
They never banned anyone for using either. No one has ever been banned for using any addon that runs within the client.
