they should increase the effect of the DND command
like DND: instancing
and have a auto message:
The following player cannot respond to you at the moment due to his/her contribution to the <instance name> is needed at the moment, please leave him/her an in-game mail
or something like that
i play prot paladin, my sis plays holy priest, so grouping up is rather simple for me

I love to ask for buffs, since they really take .00000001th of a second and like 20 mana from the giver, but come on people, don't be jerks about it:
Me: "Hey, can you buff me?"
70 kid with no life: "No get away nubzor, u kan't get teh buff unless u got goldz"
Me: "dude, it takes 1 second, and you are in orgimmar, are you really gonna miss the mana?"
70: "nub get out of my face"
buffes initiate a 2 sec cooldown and some buffs require regents and it cost much more than 20 mana, but i see your point, i don't mind buffing people when they ask for it. and if the person has a bad reaction to your request in the first place you should have moved away from that person, i mean it's annoying when people ask for something while i'm planning a heroic instance or trying to collect regents for an item i really want
but some people are just jerks like you said
edit: i once bought a SS from a warlock for a gold, and when the warlock left party, the SS disappeared: moral of the story, some buffes aren't meant to be purchased

health pots can do the same thing, and you can buy them on AH for abput 3g for 5
err... what level was the healthstone? cause on my server super health pots are 3G each
i actually asked a warlock to sell me a healthstone for a gold before heading to a heroic instance as a tank and when he asked why i told him 1G<3G and he agreed
he told me i could have it for free but i told him it's a tip saying "ty"

well i dont have any terribly high level alts so i usually only get bugged on my 70 war and sadly it is everywhere
"can i have gold?"
"can you tank (blank)?" <--- first messege, not even "wanna go to (blank)?"
usually how i respond to such things
"sorry i am broke" and if i feel like being a jerk i go off and buy something i have been wanting that costs 50+ gold
"excuse me, yes i can tank (blank) but seeing as you didnt offer me to join then i wont join you" <--- i only respond this way if i am in the middle of a grind and they bug me about it
edit: also the whole gold begger thing for me was avoided because when i first started my char my friends, of how i respect them for this, gave me 5g to start and they told me "this is for leveling and repairs and the like, stay away from the auction house, youll level out of the crappy gear you buy from there too fast anyway" and it was true

I ran into a noob in Auberdine(on the dock) and he asked for gold. Told him I didn't have any. Asked if I could give him some armor or a weapon, and he was beginning to get annoying about it. I asked him if he'd gotten lost and ended up there(He was about level 5). He said he'd just jumped on the boat and got off there. I warned him the place was a bit dangerous. He said it wouldn't be so dangerous if I'd give him some of my gear(most of which was WAY too high level for him to use for another 30 levels or so). Then, he told me he had just gone on the beach and gotten killed by a crab.
At least he gave me a laugh. :) After that he started getting abusive toward me. I was tempted to lead him back on the beach and let the crabs get him again. ;)

People have gotten lazy when it comes to asking if one wants to run a particular instance. Usually I get "wanna tank X?" or "wat spec r u?" But I got one that takes the cake on my paladin earlier.
whispers: LFM ULD!!!! (which I can only assume means uldaman)
replies: good for you, wanna cookie?
5 mins pass...
whispers: so you wanna come?
replies: not really no.
I mean, c'mon, LFG? What do I look like; the looking for group channel?
