Some people do not like random spam from strangers who are just asking for handouts.
If people are being mean, you might try introducing yourself first. I know that, as a mage, it gets annoying after a while to get spammed with several messages like "WANNA DO SHADOW LABS/RFC? CAN I GET A PORT TO SHATT? CNA I HAEV SUM WATER?" every time I enter Orgrimmar.
At least hook me up with a "Hello, how are you good sir?" first. :P

Well the problem I find is, people are in a guild they want a boost from someone from another guild. And they are herrassing me. Well sorry if I say no, I will prolly mean no.. And for some people this might get annoying.
Just be polite and first introduce yourself, then ask if someone has time then explain your situation.
I am not going to the streets and asking every dude I see with a bigger car then me, give me euro's need bigger car plx!
Ok maybe bit out of context but I think you will get the gist of it.

I'm generally nice to anyone who sends me a tell, regardless. I try to be friendly and helpful but even sometimes it's just too much for me.
Basically, take this comment and multiply it by 100x:

What I try to do is be polite asking. An example is, "Hi, would you like to tank this instance?" Most people will decline with a No thanks and give me an explaination for why. I've tried to use, "Tank, this instance?" and the answers I get usually is usually just a "No."

I'm usually the one who
gives
the angry answer. Just because I'm level 70, it does not mean I have the free time to run everybody who asks me to through , nor that I am rich enough to give out free gold to everybody who begs me for it.
I will help people out if they ask politely and it's something that won't take up hours of my time (for instance, if I'm playing on my mage and somebody politely whispers me to ask for a portal - sure, no problem unless I'm in a hurry to somewhere).
What I loathe, though, is the "you have to give me even though I've done nothing to deserve it" attitude - the open trade window in my face and "gold plx" or "water plx", or the blind group invite followed by a "boost me in ".
(The one that tops the list, for me, was when I was asked to contribute to a "twink fund" for somebody who I'd never heard of. They wanted to be a twink, but they had no main character to fund their way, so they figured they were going to just beg high-level people for freebies. That... didn't quite go as they planned, I'd imagine.)
I've gotten where I am on my own, and so have many, many other people. No reason why you can't do the same.
Besides, I've seen entirely too many level 70 characters who had not the faintest idea what most of their abilities were called or did, or how to even just survive on their own - simply because they were ran through everything by higher-level friends. As a rule, I'll only run people through instances that I know personally, and know they already know how to play their class - and know the reason they're asking me to help out is not because they want everything handed to them on a platter.

I usually don't respond to whispers from people I don't know, which neatly avoids most of the hostility. One time, though, I had someone go positively volcanic on me when I wouldn't leave an instance to summon his friend. Not once did I say a word to him, but by the end he was threatening to murder my entire family tree. Normally I just toss people like that on ignore, but I was curious to see just how apeshit this guy was going to get.
