Hey everyone, how's it going?
So, I've been playing retail WoW for about two months now (I think) and I've seen some really really really rad mounts! Flying mounts to be specific. My main is only level 50 as of this post, so I know I'm too low level for ANY flying mount, let alone a dragon or an awesome glowing purple griffon thing, but one of my goals when I reach cap is to collect mounts. Sooo...is there anyone out there who can give me a list (or a link to a list) of amazing mounts (flying and non-flying) that I can get, and how to get them? Specifically dragons and the awesome glowing purple griffon thing (I saw someone riding one of those when I was in Ogrimar, and I asked how they got it and they led me over to a guild vendor...). Oh! And the awesome Chinese Dragon looking mounts! I'm guessing you get them from somewhere/one on Panderia. Ok, I'm done rambling. Thanks guys.

P.S. My main is Horde. Thought I'd throw that in there because I know some mounts are faction-specific.
Have you tried consulting the guide lists on Wowhead, already?
Here's a guide you might find helpful in your search. There's
plenty of others and most of them have very good information.
One of the easiest things to do once you're near level cap is just hitting exalted with all the vanilla Horde reputations and buying all of their faction-specific mounts at their mount vendors. That should get you close to that 50 mount achievement for that white dragon thing. (I think it's rather ugly and don't use it :P)
I know once you hit 90, the Order of the Cloud Serpent in Pandaria is pretty easy to rep-grind. Once you hit revered (I think) you get one of those cool noodle Chinese serpents you see everyone with. Shortly after that you can just buy the rest with gold.

Mounts are largely a matter of taste, not to mention prestige for some of the more rare choices.
The purple bird you saw would be the
Reins of the Dark Phoenix seeing as the person you asked led you to the guild vendor. There's also a similar mount from Cataclysm raid achievements:
Corrupted Egg of Millagazor. The Chinese Dragon looking mount would be a Cloud Serpent, from
these guys in Pandaria as you've already surmised.
You might want to look into
http://www.wowhead.com/faction=1015. It requires you to be a bit higher level still but only really requires some time spent to get the mounts, rather than gold or a group. Seeing as how you're new the latter two might be in limited supply - and the mount(s) you get from that faction are both good looking and rather iconic.
Wowhead has all mounts ingame in it's database under Database -> Spells -> Mounts. Limited use to you though I'd think - if you narrow your preferences down a bit more we'd probably be able to help you out better by memory.
