How did this thread go from the environment to religion?

Because someone was dismissing their science.

Global warming is mostly media hype. The planet is warming up, and it is indeed the fault of mankind, but the effect we are having and the degree of change are often grossly misrepresented in popular media (case in point: An Inconvenient Truth, in which Al Gore actually called global warming a 'mostly spiritual issue'). All of this is due to the latest fad in politics - the need to 'feel good' about one's actions. In truth, the effects of 'going green' are negligible. Also, none of the environmentalists seem to realize that even if everyone in America and other affluent countries 'went green', the rest of the industrializing world would not. You can't expect people who are struggling to keep clothes on their backs to care about something like climate change.
I kind of got off on a tangent there...anyways, for more information on this side of the global warming debate I'd recommend reading 'Cool It' by Bjorn Lomberg. Very informative read.

omg...
Lead by example. Saying "there's nothing we can do, someone else will just do the same thing" will never help. I pretty sure that 3rd world countries would love to use clean renewable resources rather than expensive coal and oil, it would free them from dependence on 1st nations and raise their standard of living. If you mean media hype in terms of daily environmental disasters and another species extinct- all played n your local news, then yes it's all hype- trying to open everyone's eyes to the fact that creatures are dying on this planet because of our negligence.
It is a spiritual issue- people use spirituality to cleanse/purify their mind and bodies, why not use the same beliefs to purify the world you live in.

I'm not saying there's nothing we can do, not by a long shot. Also, 'clean, renewable resources' tend to be more expensive than coal and oil. You can hardly expect third-world countries to use these alternatives. I'm not gonna cite all of the scientific evidence in support of what I'm arguing here...each side has its own 'scientists' (guess which ones the media uses?). Basically there is a pool of facts about global warming. Some glaciers are melting, some glaciers are
growing.
More people are dying from heat, and more people are
dying from cold
each year. The media and other 'global warming activists' such as Al Gore choose to see only one half of these facts...the half that is conducive to their position.
Here's a good example of that. The primary graph that people use to show increases in CO2 in the atmosphere (called the Keeling Curve) just happens to be from readings taken at a station at Mauna Loa, Hawaii, which happens to be an active volcanic site. Volcanoes produce large amounts of CO2 and other greenhouse gases ...doesn't it seem odd that people would choose to cite
this
graph?
That's just the tip of the iceberg...but I'm not gonna spend all day arguing about this. What it all boils down to is that global warming is a mostly political issue.

possibly because A: it's atmosphere's elemental composition is radically different than that of Earth's, and B: because it's way closer to the sun.

well then if you learned about the planets maybe you can explain why venus's situation is different to our own?
But I suspect you dont know
I do know, but the point I'm trying to get across to you is that increased CO2= increased heat trapped in the atmosphere. Venus is an extreme case- which is why I use it as an example of tGHE.
But whatever. You clearly work for the coal or oil industry or just don't care about innovation.
I recall when computers were considered too expensive- now everyone has one- put solar on your house and you'll instantly power your house and send power out on the grid, imagine if everyone's house did that. Most houses have a roof.

But why do you believe in it? I already know what people say it is.
Based on the history of the planet...don't you kinda think that the rise in temperature over the last 100 years or so is a bit large?
This is the question that made me believe global warming could be reality...
The lack of snow here in New England, and the excessive amount of snow at my home state (Washington State, which usually only has rain over the winter)...
It's just strange, because my childhood was practically devoid of snow.

There has been climate change since the beginning of time. The slow, normal, natural changes aren't what we're concerned with. We're concerned with the dramatic, never-before experienced, extreme and destructive spike in global temperature that started around 20 years ago.

If the earth is 4.5 billion years old then how do you explain dinosaurs? Exactly.
If you are confused press 1.

I didn't quite understand your question, but dinosaurs appeared around 230 Million years ago and lived until around 65 million years.
And you can prove this how?
