most don't want to hear from a pally that he is dps because they are hoping for a healer or tank
there is nothing wrong with a dps pally, but i can imagine that its a pain in the ass to hear from a pug pally that he/she is dps when you are looking for more then an hour for a tank/healer.

lack of CC yes, low DPS no, they are very gear dependant, so most Retadins in Greens and blues will have low DPS

I have seen rogues on the bottom of the damage meters, right above the healer. I've also seen Ret Pally's #2 on meters. It's all in the gear & the player, Ret Pally's are probably more gear dependent than any other class.

happens to me aswell.. always forget to turn of aggressive when in gadgetzan or anywhere..
it's just too easy when you boost someone. just put your pet on aggresive and run trough the instance lol

A week ago did my first SL-run with my druid. We had a BM hunter with us who didn't used his pet. When I asked him why he didn't, he told me it was too much a hassle to control it. He didn't do bad, but he could have done much better. I must say I was happy that we had a good tank and good cc, because I would have left if that guy had to trap.
