Well rants don't offer much of a discussion, but I can see how this might be a problem.
The thing is though that the first 2 dungeons you do for Cata are quite easy. I had a druid run my level 78 priest through them so I could get some gear. Just give them some time and they might get better. If they don't get better then don't worry about them trying to join your raiding group. There will always be players that won't pull their weight, those that don't put any effort into their character and are on the bottom of the dps/hps done lists in LFR. Then there are players that don't seem to pull their weight, those that get boosted a lot of levels may not be doing a ton out the gate but give them some time and they will. In LFR I like to think of myself as one of those, since I lag so much in 25m I can't do as well as I could if I wasn't lagging. Did an Ultraxion fight where I was at 0 fps >.<

They have a similar problem in City of Heroes with their 1-50 leveling room (the Archetect System). The bright side there is now it's more limited... Bright side here though is that you have to reactivate an account.
In general though, I'm not seeing much of an issue. On the contrary, my guild is getting full of these Newbie 80s since when they run instances together, the guild gets credit (works for me). Also, since most of them are returning players, you don't have to teach them basics.
Then again, I'm an 85 Paladin with fairly good tanking gear and a ton of skill under me... so there's always that.

Nope. The kind of players that don't know what the heck they are doing at 80, won't know what the heck they are doing regardless of whether their 80 was "free" or they actually leveled it. My druid got RAF grant a levels from 44 to 80 and he is currently through heroic blackhorn because I actually looked up how to play it. People making a level 80 that don't suck at this game, know to look things up about their spec regardless of how they got to 80. And the leveling process doesn't teach much of anything for endgame anyway. There are several spells that are neccessary that you don't get until very high levels (Seriously shamans don't even have riptide til 69, warriors don't get heroic leap til 85, etc.) Honestly the leveling process seems fairly unneccessary at this point. It is simply a time obstacle in the way of actually playing your character.
Here is a
screenshot taken of my priest's /played.
Through some very simple math you can determine that it took me 29 hours, 58 minutes, 33 seconds to hit 85. Thats hardly any time at all. Even if you go very casual in the leveling process it can still be accomplished in under 4 days easily. The majority of that is going from one questgiver to the other, or being in an undertuned dungeon. That doesn't teach you anything about how to play your character at 85. Complaining about a free 80 being the source of people sucking is fairly nonsensical. People have sucked at this game since its conception, and there will continue to be players who suck at it. Thats not to say they are bad players, they just don't know what the heck they are doing, and until they do some research or figure it out for themselves, they will continue to be suboptimal.
And specifically to those dungeons: I've leveled 12 85s so far between accounts and I've got a pally capped off at 80. There are people doing terrible damage in those dungeons at all points of their existance, it isn't anything new.

This. The players taking the Scroll must have played at some point, and I don't think many who just played a bit some time ago would want to suddenly start playing a lot.
Of course there will be bad players, but as
bloodydk
said, real baddies don't learn in 85 levels any better than 5.

I actually greatly prefer the SoR to the RaF feature. SoR you just have to spend the gold to get geared out, but with RaF you have to keep buying gear that you outlevel in a couple hours. I think I spent somewhere around 2k just keeping my paladin geared up, but the DK I got from the free levels I geared up in an hour of farming for ore.
Sure they don't know their abilities yet, but if you show them the basics and encourage them to train on the dummys then they can usually get up to snuff in a few instances. By the time they hit 85 they are old hands at their characters and should be able to run HoT instances without too much trouble.

The reason I say this is because in all of the instances I have run since hitting 80 have gone this path, me doing approx 7-9k dps as tank and doing approx 50-60% of all dmg done, one of the dps is doing maybe 4k while the other two are sub 1.5k.
As I recall. tanks tend to out DPS DPS most of the time before heroics.

To a point, but they should really be handing out more than 1.5k. I think an average of about 3-4k DPS is acceptable for a new L80.

I agree with OP. Now I haven't luckily been in so many dungeons due to my network failing on and off, but I can imagine how this would happen.
As for Bloodydk... This might be partially true, but what if someone comes back that haven't played since like.. Vanilla? All of a sudden, they get invited again. Their last toon was like lvl 20, never got played and now they have a toon in lvl 80, with a heck of abilities they didn't know existed. Sure, five levels is 'a lot' to level cap if you're not doing what you should, but 85 levels if you -do- know what to do is piece a cake.
I don't like the system with granting levels. Not in SoR, not in RaF, not in Death Knights. Despite having my main almost at 85 now, I don't have a DK. I can't play them, I don't like them, I don't like that I miss out on 55 levels to learn my abilities.

I would say I partially agree, although the players who happen to underperform aren't actually using SoR gear, so...

I think the only real issue I'm finding with the SoR members is that most of them are going for a Tank build. I've got five tanks in my guild, 20 or so DPS and 2 healers. I keep telling them that Paladins are great healers, but they don't beleive me ;p

might want to make sure that their actually SoR players. There's just alot of bad players out there regardless of when they started playing their character. There's nothing in wow that prevents players from reaching 85 for playing badly. eventually they'll make it there. Good players will always figure out how to play their characters. They'll look up talent builds, how to itemize, how to do their rotations properly and actually practice them. Bad players will just hit whatever button they think is the right one. When pre-mades are available in the PTR you get a large variety of players. People who have no clue how to play the class they just made and others who actually look up stuff before they jump into a dungeon or raid.
