Update your AddOns: WoW Classic Threat Meters Switch to a New Library

Last week a major update to the Classic threat library, the backbone of threat meters such as the Details TinyThreat plugin and ClassicThreatMeter, was released. The new release fixes bugs such as "You are not in a raid group" in Alterac Valley and improves threat accuracy throughout all situations.
However, the old and new libraries are incompatible, which means all players must update to the new library to provide their threat to their party. Furthermore, ClassicThreatMeter is no longer maintained and can't be updated to the new library, so a new version under the name of ThreatClassic2 (
CurseForge link
) was released as its replacement.
You might be wondering, why that concerns you, why you need a AddOn in the first place and how you can update. Here are the answers:
Why do I need AddOns for threat in WoW Classic?
As Blizzard first released built-in threat handling in Wrath of the Lich King and purposefully removed it from WoW Classic, threat must be handled by AddOns. Every player calculates his own threat on a monster and then sends a "hidden group message" to all other players in the party. This message can only be understood when the other players in the party have a compatible library installed. Many major AddOns like Deadly Boss Mods, Details, Plater, ThreatPlates Classic and ThreatClassic2 bundle this threat library and send your generated threat to over players even if you are not actively using a threat meter yourself. Without this, players using a threat meter would not see the threat of people without a threat meter.
Why do I need to update?
The old library (
ThreatClassic-1.0
) is no longer maintained and was replaced by
LibThreatClassic2
. Players with ThreatClassic-1.0 won't see the threat of players with LibThreatClassic2 and vice versa. LibThreatClassic2 is incompatible with ThreatClassic-1.0, because of a broken versioning implementation in ThreatClassic-1.0.
Players that don't update won't send their threat to players with the new library and won't receive the threat of players without the old library installed. This means your party members with the new version won't show up in your threat meter and you won't show up in theirs.
How can I update?
If you are actively using ClassicThreatMeter, please switch over to
ThreatClassic2
or use Details TinyThreat instead. ThreatClassic2 also comes with a new option to always hide it and just run it in the background. ThreatClassic2 always comes with the latest version of the library.
If you are actively using Details TinyThreat, please install the latest version of Details. You need Details version C188 or later (/details will show the version ingame).
If you are not actively using a threat meter, you get the new library by updating
DBM
,
Plater
,
ThreatPlates Classic
or consider installing
ThreatClassic2
If you are actively using threat in your guild's raids, please forward this information to your guild mates.
