Classic WoW Realm Population Report - Data Aggregated Through Community

Today we will be looking into a community response to a limitation present in Classic: the lack of a character API. This limitation, which was already present back in Vanilla, prevents many tools that work for modern WoW to work for Classic, including the WoW Armory and tools like
RealmPop
. In order to fill the void created by the lack of the latter, members of the Classic community have developed a website to build an approximation of the realm population:

The website serves as a hub to accumulate player data about their realms to create an approximation to a realm census. Since the data is all community-driven, the information given in the website won't ever be a complete picture, but with more players contributing to it, closer it will be.
How to Contribute?
The data is collected by the
CensusClassicPlus
addon. The addon runs in the background while you play, basically executing /who to assert the current players online. After you logout, the information gathered must be submitted to the website for processing. Users must upload their
CensusPlusClassic.lua
file, located in the folder below:

Current Player Data
While the information present right now isn't very representative, it already shows impressive numbers. Between US and EU Realms, there have been already over
4 million characters
scanned in Classic realms. Overall, Alliance players seem to be preferring Normal realms, while Horde players prefer PvP realms. Overall, the population for both US and EU regions seems to be faily balanced.

Race and Class Distribution
Class Distribution
As you can see, the census' class distribution follows closely the
popularity of leveling guides
we've been observing on the site. With the most popular classes being
Guerrero
and
Mago
with almost 16% of the characters each, followed by
Brujo
,
Cazador
,
Pícaro
, and
Sacerdote
close together with around 12%. Finishing up with
Druida
with almost 9% and
Paladín
and
Chamán
both with 6%.
