Dire Maul released this week ahead of its place in the Phase 2 schedule, so we've updated all our Classic Class Guides to reflect the new content and items available to players.
For anyone who doesn't know, Dire Maul is a 5-man dungeon separated into three wings similar to Scarlet Monastery. Located deep within the forests of Feralas, it's considered one of Classic's first "catch-up" instances, containing many pieces of notable gear for near/max level players.
The
East Wing
, also known as Warpwood Quarter, has been taken over by the nefarious satyr Alzzin the Wildshaper, who corrupted the Fruit of Fertility located within there to produce Felvine Shards. Alzzin's corruption has brought all manner of corrupted plant life, satyrs and demons to Dire Maul. Dire Maul East is considered the easiest of the three wings in Dire Maul.
The
West Wing
, also known as Capital Gardens, is haunted by ghosts and skeletons of deceased Highborne. The influence of the Highborne can also be seen through the arcane creatures that inhabit the instance, such as arcane elementals and mana surges. This wing features the summonable Warlock boss
Lord Hel'nurath
.
The
North Wing
, also known as Gordok Commons, has been taken by the Gordok Ogre tribe, and is now populated almost entirely by Ogres. You can run this wing normally, but most players prefer to complete a Tribute Run, considered a hard mode version of Dire Maul North. In a normal Dire Maul run, you will progress normally through the instance, defeating every single Guard (which counts as a boss). However, on a Tribute run, the group must go through a series of tasks to ensure all Guards are alive and only the final boss of the wing, King Gordok, is killed by the end of the run. This type of run yields more loot from the
Tributo a Gordok
at the end of the run. Tribute runs also provide powerful 2-hour long buffs, which make it very important to racing guilds and other heavy min/max focused players.
What's Changed?
Our Best-in-Slot pages are currently divided up by Phase into Pre-Raid and Raid sections, but because Phase 2 won't roll around until later this year, we've merged all of the Dire Maul related items into the Phase 1 sections of the guide.
Our Enchants pages include the Arcanums obtainable in Dire Maul.
Our Consumables pages highlight the recipes, drops, and tribute buffs obtainable within Dire Maul.
Additionally, we have several updates to account for the now available
Paladin
and
Warlock
epic mount quests, and brand new
Dire Maul Dungeon Guides
covering boss strategies, abilities, and loot for the three wings of the new instance.

What Comes Next?
Phase 2 is still on the horizon, with it coming the
PvP honor system
and all of the associated rewards - PvP titles, gear, mounts, and more. While we still do not have an exact date, we do know that it's set to arrive
before the end of the year
. With BlizzCon right around the corner, it's unlikely to launch beforehand, so we can probably expect the announcement announcement at the convention along with more information regarding future Classic plans.
