Welcome to our overview of the biggest profession changes in Classic WoW as compared to Battle for Azeroth! While professions have been around since vanilla, much has changed over 15 years. If you've been playing BFA without any Vanilla experience but want to get into Classic, or are a Vanilla vet that wants a refresher course, these are the largest changes to the professions you should know about.

Overall Profession Changes from BFA
Inscription, Jewelcrafting, and Archaeology are not present in Classic WoW.
First Aid
, retired in Battle for Azeroth, is alive and well.
There are no ways to automatically relearn recipes when discarding and retraining a profession.
There is no Reagent tab in the bank.
Profession recipes do not have ranks.
Profession skills are capped at 300 and you must level from 1-300, while in BFA skills are divided by expansion.
There is no Scrapper system from BFA to acquire more reagents, or Blood of Sargeras system in Legion to trade for preferred reagents.
The Darkmoon Faire does not provide profession skillup quests.
The best gear can only be crafted at high profession skill levels in Classic.
There is no equivalent to Battle for Azeroth's "Tools of the Trade" items in Classic.
Biggest Alchemy Changes from BFA to Classic
Alchemy requires players to go to specific laboratories in instances to create the best flasks.
There are no Alchemy specializations for Elixirs, Potions, or Transmutes in WoW Classic.
Alchemists do not benefit from the
Mixology
bonus.
Various Battle and Guardian elixirs can stack in Classic, providing players with a much-lengthier list of consumables to acquire.
Different vials are required for various Alchemy recipes.

Biggest Blacksmithing Changes from BFA to Classic
In Classic WoW, Blacksmithing has several specializations, Armorsmithing and Weaponsmithing, which is further broken down into Master Axesmith, Hammersmith, or Swordsmith choices.
Classic Blacksmithing gear was mostly aimed at players interested in leveling, beginner raiding, or collecting resistance sets. In Battle for Azeroth, Blacksmithing gear focuses on max-level PvE epics and full PvP sets.
Blacksmiths cannot socket gear in Classic WoW.
Blacksmiths crafted many sharpening stones in Classic WoW to increase weapon damage, such as

Biggest Cooking Changes from BFA to Classic
There are no group feasts in Classic WoW.
Cooking Fire was called Basic Campfire, required reagents, and dealt damage when stood on.
There are less "fun" cooking items in WoW Classic such as no
Chef's Hat
,
Baby Spice
, or
Delicious Chocolate Cake
.

Biggest Enchanting Changes from BFA to Classic
Enchanters can only enchant others' equipment via the trade window. There are no vellums that can be placed on the AH.
Enchanting reagents in BFA are quite simplified, with only a few types of dusts used per expansion. In Classic, there is a wider variety of dusts from items disenchanted in level ranges.
The
Weapon Illusion
system is not present in Classic.
Different types of Enchanting rods are needed for high-level enchants, such as
Vara arcanita con runas

There are no ring enchants in Classic.
Enchanters crafted oils in Classic WoW such as

to increase stats when applied to weapons.

Biggest Engineering Changes from BFA to Classic
Engineering explosives were very powerful in PvE and PvP in Classic; they are not considered a strong DPS consumable in BFA.
With the presence of an ammo slot in Classic, Engineers can craft various types of ammo for Hunters.
For many expansions, Engineers have enjoyed crafting epic BoP helms that were usually competitive. These helms are not present in Classic WoW.
There are no Engineering mounts in Classic WoW.
Engineering still has lots of popular gadgets, but well-loved ones like
Jeeves
and
Blingtron
were not present.

Biggest Fishing Changes from BFA to Classic
There are minimum skill requirements to fish in zones.
Fish can get away, and the cast time per catch is slightly longer.
The fishing bobber has a different icon.
A

Many weird and wacky types of fishing content are accessible in Battle for Azeroth, which have no equivalent in Classic, such as

You must hit certain skill requirements in order to gather herbs in outdoor areas of the game in Classic WoW.
Herb nodes do not grant experience.
Herb nodes are not shared-tap among players.
Without the Inscription profession, there is no option to mill herbs.
The
Sky Golem
is not present in Classic WoW.
In Classic,
Pícaro
players create

You must hit certain skill requirements in order to gather mineral veins in outdoor areas of the game in Classic WoW.
You may need to tap mining nodes several times in order to loot all of the ore and gems.
A

is required for mining.
Mineral veins do not grant experience.
Mineral veins are not shared-tap among players.
Without the Jewelcrafting profession, there is no option to prospect ore.

Biggest Leatherworking Changes from BFA to Classic
Classic has three Leatherworking specialties with unique recipes:

Biggest Skinning Changes from BFA to Classic
You must have

Biggest Tailoring Changes from BFA to Classic
Tailors can craft bags for specific classes, such as

There is a much-larger emphasis on collectible shirt and fashion patterns in Classic, with over 20 shirts from Classic Tailoring recipes.
Classic Tailoring gear was mostly aimed at players interested in leveling, beginner raiding, or collecting resistance sets. In Battle for Azeroth, Tailoring gear focuses on max-level PvE epics and full PvP sets.
Bandages are created through the First Aid profession, not Tailoring, in Classic.
There are no Tailor-specific cloak enchants in Classic, but crafted items had a variety of interesting effects like
