Classic DPS
we've dived into the parses recorded on Warcraft Logs in order to see how the different healer classes in Classic WoW are doing and how they rank against one another. This is a shorter and more direct comparison, since most classes don't have multiple spec competing in the same role, though there are still areas in which utility, efficiency, and unique raid buffs or debuffs can make a difference beyond who puts out the most healing - just like the absolute top performers are heavily influenced by gear, group composition, consumables, world buffs, and how well the raid is min/maxed in general, as that leads to faster kills and
less healing required
. To get a good overview, we're looking at high parses in the
90th+ percentile
, to see how well each class competes without focusing entirely on the top or bottom of the scale, though it's important to remember raw HPS isn't the only important metric for healing. Keep in mind that Warcraft Logs groups by class, rather than spec as in retail, due to there being no talent look up in Classic.
Tier List
Classic.Warcraftlogs.com
data shows a surprisingly similar number of parses between the different healing classes, after accounting for Paladin and Shaman being restricted to Alliance and Horde respectively; as expected, Priest is the most well represented, but also has more varied specializations which trade out healing in order to provide more damage, and unlike DPS the condensed number of options creates more compelling reasons to bring every type of healer. Like last time, we've categorized each class into tiers of healing potential, though keep in mind that total healing potential is not the only important metric to being a good healer, as carefully managing mana and healing at the right time, as well as bringing indispensable buffs and debuffs, can be just as if not even more important.

Holy Paladin
Restricted to Alliance only, Holy Paladins are one of the best healers in Classic WoW, utilizing the short cast time on
Destello de Luz
and the surprising mana efficiency of
Iluminación
to sustain strong single target healing. Really though, one of their greatest strengths is their wide variety of buffs, which promotes bringing multiple Paladins to raid, but doesn't restrict their group placement as much as Shaman totems do. Unlike their Horde counterparts, Paladin talents are also extremely flexible, with Holy able to spec in or out of
Bendición de poderío mejorada
,
Bendición de los Reyes
, and
Bendición de sabiduría mejorada
far more easily than
Armas elementales
which would require significant investment into Enhancement at the expense of their healing. While none of their buffs are as individually impactful as something like Windfury, the ability to stack several different Blessings on each member of the raid without even being in the same party more than makes up for it. Finally,
Aura de Resistencia al Fuego
and similar spells plays a big role in raiding; all of these benefits combined make Holy Paladins a welcome sight in any Alliance raid group.
Because Paladins can wear Plate they have the widest array of gearing options, though most of the highest performing Holy Paladins are using common Pre-Raid BiS items shared by other healers, including
Togas del Exaltado
,
El martillo de Gracia
,
Viento segundo
, and
Lacre de Fordring
. Unfortunately, Spell Critical Strike Chance isn't widely available until later phases and
Armadura de Justiciero
suffers from hybridized stat budget, so you won't see much unique gearing out of Paladins in Molten Core and most will continue to compete with other healers for the best gear.

Holy Priest
Priests are the premier healers in WoW Classic, competing very well with Paladin and Shaman, even overtaking them in the
max percentiles
. Although Priests still bring stamina and spirit buffs, they trade out the wider variety of group utility provided by Paladin and Shaman for a wider range of healing tools in AoE (
Rezo de curación
), healing over time (
Renovar
), and absorption shields (
Palabra de poder: escudo
), as well as a little bit of damage, though most of what they do in raids consists of using
Curación superior
for increased mana efficiency. For the Alliance, Dwarf Priests are also
extremely
useful due to their racial spell
Custodia de miedo
, which is not only helpful for tanks but also eliminating downtime for healers and key DPS.
Deep Holy is virtually always going to be the best performing specialization for Priests, by way of strong healing talents such as
Guía espiritual
and
Curación espiritual
, though they universally avoid the capstone talent
Pozo de Luz
given how clunky its use is. That said, several raids also make use of Discipline Priests who also make capable healers, but sacrifice a bit of that potential for the supremely powerful external buff
Infusión de poder
. Once they get beyond the point of enough healing to survive encounters, many high performing guilds will prioritize Power Infusion in order to buff their high damage spell casters and increase clear speed, as faster boss kills also require less total healing. This will ultimately cause some deviation in Warcraft Logs statistics as Discipline Priests will cause a slight reduction in total Priest performance, but overall they remain nearly unmatched in absolute healing potential.

A Tier
Restoration Shaman
Counter to the single target prowess of the Holy Paladin, Restoration Shamans are the best AoE Healing class, thanks to
Curación en cadena
, which is both powerful and smart as each "bounce" will prioritize the lowest health party member near the most recently healed target. Unfortunately, they lack mana efficiency of other healers, no access to
Bendición de Sabiduría
and lacking regular regeneration or refunds while casting.
What a Shaman does bring is some of the best melee utility in the game, namely
Tótem Viento Furioso
. Because Shaman don't provide much in the way of caster support, Horde guilds tend to stack slightly more melee classes than Alliance ones, but that strength is also one of their biggest weaknesses. Unlike Blessings, Totems are restricted to the party, causing Shaman to often be pushed into melee groups and they'll often be expected to
Totem Twist
, taxing their mana inefficiency even more than normal. Being placed in the melee groups also pushes them into the Enhancement talent
Tótems de mejoría
, taking points out of Restoration. The capstone Restoration talent
Tótem de marea de maná
is the exception to this melee focus, but it's a relatively weak cooldown, and typically most important in the earliest stages of the game, before proper gearing has supplanted the need - in many cases the Shaman ends up needing to use it for
themselves
long before any other healer, and they would still find themselves placed into melee groups if there weren't enough Shaman to go around. For these reasons, Shaman are firmly placed in the A tier slightly below Priest and Paladin as despite their strong AoE healing, typically more emphasis is placed on their buffs than total output.
Like Paladins,
Tótem de Resistencia al Fuego
and other resistance auras also play an important part in raiding, and
Tótem de tremor
is much more accessible than the Dwarf Priest only
Custodia de miedo
although what it makes up for in accessibility it loses in group restriction and more stringent timing due to pulsing every 5 seconds rather than immuning the effects outright.

B Tier
Restoration Druid
Restoration Druids are fantastic healers, particularly in support of Power Infusion specced Discipline Priests, and they benefit from flexibility in build choice - the Balance/Restoration hybrid revolving around
Brillo lunar
helps in the early struggle with mana efficiency, deep Restoration
Arreglo rápido
improves healing output considerably, while going in the other direction for a Feral/Restoration
Corazón de lo Salvaje
focus can allow for extra damage or off-tanking. Moonglow currently competes very well due to generally smaller mana pools, before better gearing and use of consumables such as
Frasco de sabiduría destilada
give Swiftmend a large enough mana pool to work with.
Despite their respectable output, Druids are similar to Shaman in that they're often brought to raids less for their healing than for their wide variety of utility.
Fuego feérico
is indispensable as one of the core debuffs to be used against any raid boss,
Marca de lo salvaje
is a welcome addition for all players,
Enervar
is highly sought after by all spellcasters, and
Renacer
can save individual mistakes or doomed pulls (although Druids do have the notable downside of lacking a normal non-combat resurrection in small group content). Druids are also one of two classes to bring
Deshacer maldición
, making them a huge part in the fight against Lucifron in order to remove
Maldición de Lucifrón
, although at the expense of not spending as much time healing. Last, but not least, their general flexibility with forms allows them to fill in a variety of roles and offers an alarming amount of options that while not always important in raid situations can be very useful in every other aspect of the game.
Unfortunately, while these things make them outstanding classes in every aspect of the game, many of them aren't overly relevant to raiding, or are much more muted than similar effects provided by other classes. Unlike Paladins and Shaman, you only need one Druid to provide Faerie Fire, Mark of the Wild, and potentially Reincarnate if things tend to go well, while Innervate alone isn't a good enough reason to prioritize Druids over other classes. Their buffs simply don't provide the value that Windfury, stacking multiple Paladin Blessings, or Power Infusion do. That isn't to say Druids are
bad
by any means; they may not supplant Priests, Paladins, or Shaman, but Reincarnation can be clutch during rough encounters, and Restoration is very nice in support of other healers focusing on their buffs rather than total output, so a couple Druids are still always welcome additions to any raid team.
