Welcome to 80!
Raids come in different flavors. There's the 10-man version, and the 25-man version. The party leader sets that and you enter in that mode. The drops from 25-man are better than the 10-man version.
If you're already running Heroics, your gear can't be that bad. I presume you're using LFD to get in, right? Anyway, use wowhead - it's a Database. Search for all the lvl 80 required gear usable by a Paladin and see how to get it. Also, if you could link to your armory, people could give better advice.
Some other snipets:
1. If you want money, run Icecrown Dalies.
2. If you like PvP, run Wintergrasp or get on an Arena team.
Personally, I think that LFD is great, and you can get lots of emblems and money etc. just from doing that, if you want.
So, just a few things, and I'm not the most experienced, but hopefully it will get the ball rolling for you.
Cheers.

Hey! I'm a ret pally, newly turned 80. I pretty much just did questing up till now, but have recently started running heroics and such. But I have no idea what *25 man* *10 man* means at all. My gear is also really bad, and am wondering how to get better stuff? I've spent some emblems to buy some, but it still seems like I could have better gear. So confused, any advice or knowledge you could give me about being an 80 would be much, much, much appreciated. Even if it seems obvious, believe me, I'm oblivious...
25 man and 10 man are raids. They are different from dungeons. They are more difficult and the loot drops are better. Like stated already, 25 man stuff is better but of course it is also harder.
I would recommend farming reg. ToC until you get all the drops you can get from there and then run Heroic ToC as often as you can for those drops. Of course there are decent drops in the other dungeons too but the ToC ones are all epic. In a short time you can start buying gear with your emblems of triumph. 232 stuff is pretty decent and cheaper than 245 gear but 245 gear is the best you can get without running raids. Once you are all epic geared and have a few pieces of emblem gear you should have not too much trouble starting to hit some raids. That is where the good stuff is. Also don't forget about crafted gear. Use Atlasloot or ask a blacksmith to link up in chat and see what you can have made up for you and start collecting the mats for some of that stuff too.
