When Are Patch 7.3.5 and Allied Race Release Dates? (Speculation)

There's been a lot of speculation surrounding Patch 7.3.5's release date, especially with datamined, but not testable, Allied Races. In this article, we'll analyze datamined evidence and speculate on when we think 7.3.5 and Allied Races will be playable.

that Patch 7.3.5 release date is January 16th.

7.3.5 Release Date
When does Patch 7.3.5 release? We think
is a likely date for the start of Patch 7.3.5. This would allow Blizzard to include 7.3.5 PTR updates for the following:
Call of the Scarab (Jan 21-23rd)
are new event mounts for this micro-holiday.
: Wrath Timewalking includes
on the 7.3.5 PTR.
A January 16th launch would make sense from a lore perspective. Back in Tomb of Sargeras, the planet Argus was
visible to all players
when the final wing of LFR opened. The final wing of
opens on January 16th, so it would make sense for everyone to access the zone changes related to the Antorus cinematic. The 7.3.5 PTR adds further
which drive the post-Antorus story forward.
7.3.5, whenever it launches, will likely be a staggered content patch like the rest of Legion. For example, we datamined text related to
destroying Artifact Weapons
--and it would be unlikely that our weapons would be retired in a few weeks with no official notice.
Another reason we think the Patch is January 16th is the addition of the
mounts for the Call of the Scarab micro-holiday which begins on the 21st. Usually new holiday updates are datamined a patch before they appear on live servers. For example,
was datamined in the 7.3 PTR and obtainable during 2017's Feast of Winter Veil.
Another possible release date is
. This would be 77 days after Antorus, following Blizzard's trend of launching patches usually 77 days after major events. It would also allow for Blizzard to fit
into Wrath Timewalking, as that event starts on the 13th.
Using the January 16th estimate, here's a potential timeline:
: Everyone accesses the updated Wound in the World, and can pick up a faction-themed questline.
revamp added. Minor new content includes
added backpack slots
Seething Shore Battlground
could release with the start of 7.3.5, or it could unlock later after the story between the Alliance and Horde escalates.
: New and improved Call of the Scarab event with new items like
: Ulduar Timewalking and new rewards.
Over the course of the next few months, we'd have more NPCs present in the Wound in the World and learn more about why we must
retire our Artifact Weapons
. The story would ramp up leading to the
June 12 release date
for the pre-expansion novel
Before the Storm
There is a lot of datamined information on
in the 7.3.5 PTR, although you cannot create and play an Allied Race on the 7.3.5 PTR. This has led to a lot of discussion as to when Allied Races will be playable.
We think, based on datamining and past experience, that some Allied Races will be available as early access via Battle for Azeroth preorder. While they may not technically be a 7.3.5 feature, the Allied Races are quite polished in the PTR data.
that when you try to create an Allied Race, the game first checks to see if you have 8.0 (Battle for Azeroth) purchased.
Blizzard has stated that Allied Races are a
Battle for Azeroth feature
Blizzard has created Early Access content before. Demon Hunters were available August 9th for those who preordered Legion, and August 16th for those who did not. We could be in a similar situation for Allied Races.
So...when is Battle for Azeroth preorder?
think this is coming right at the start of Patch 7.3.5. Allied Races have not been tested at all, and there have been no blue posts revealing details on Allied Races.
However, we do think we could start seeing hints about the Allied race storyline in 7.3.5--perhaps several weeks of gossiping NPCs or short questlines at the start of 7.3.5, culminating in an announcement from Blizzard as to when you can finally unlock the races. This plays into Blizzard's style of staggering content. In the leadup to Antorus for example, we had several weeks of
teasing the raid's story.
Battle for Azeroth preorder is likely after players have experienced the major story points for Patch 7.3.5. Unlocking and leveling Allied Races for
then provides fresh content for players.
