BlizzCon 2017 Battle for Azeroth Item Level Changes and Stat Squish

In the Battle of Azeroth demo we've discovered that Blizzard has a change to items' item level planned for Battle for Azeroth. Instead of a Stat Squish, like
happened in Warlords of Draenor
, Blizzard now decided to reduce the item level from old expansion items, in order to accomodate the new expansion: Battle for Azeroth.

The only items that were available in the demo were the items from Legion, so we don't have any information on previous expansions. Below are some examples of items available in the Dungeon Journal in the demo;

Chaosblitz
was hitting for around 6.3k with the demo character's gear.

interviewed Ion and asked about a potential stat squish. Here is a summary of Ion's reply:
Item levels and health pools are very high, so it's very likely we are getting a stat squish. Blizzard has learned a lot from the last stat squish and wants to do it in a better way. Ion also wants to look at the concept of item levels - right now it's a bit meaningless. For example, going from Burning Crusade to Wrath, you go from ilvl 115 to 200 and gain +2 intellect. Then when you hit max level, every item level boost is a huge deal. The concept of item level has to be normalized.
Prior to Legion, the last stat squish we had was in
Warlords of Draenor
.
What are you thoughts about this change? Did you prefer a Stat squish instead of an ilvl change? Or is the ilvl change a better solution to a stat squish? Tell us in the comments
