Unterdrückung

While this talent point does not affect all of the warlock's spell or even their primary DPS spell, Schattenblitz, it is still very useful for applying any of the warlock's curses and dots. Examples of spells affected by this talent point include Fluch der Schatten, Fluch der Elemente, Fluch der Tollkühnheit, and Verderbnis. Missing any of these abilities can severely affect a warlock's DPS since all abilities have a 1.5-second global cooldown.

Verbesserte Verderbnis

While you technically only need 3/5 points (2/5 would put you at 1.6 seconds) in this talent to cast faster than the 1.5-second global cooldown, essentially making the cast "instant," it is still useful to get the full 5/5 points. Maxing this talent out allows the warlock to be able to put Verderbnis while moving which is a massive benefit.

Verbesserter Fluch der Schwäche

Fluch der Schwäche is not used often since the damage it mitigates is not significantly impactful or necessary in most circumstances, it still has some niche roles to fill. Some bosses, such as Chromaggus, have unavoidable enraging effects where the tank will take heavy damage. During these times guilds may opt to use Fluch der Schwäche if the damage output is too difficult to heal through.

Verbesserter Seelendieb

This talent sounds stronger than it is. Not only do warlocks severely lack the spirit to make it work, to trigger the effect of this ability the warlock has to not only get the very last damaging blow on the target, but the target has to die from Seelendieb specifically! In a 40 person raid the likelihood of your drain soul doing the very last hit of damage is so unlikely that this talent rarely ever triggers, making it not worth picking up.

Verbesserter Aderlass

This talent is a MUST TAKE ability. In any given raid warlock players will find themselves using Aderlass dozens of times. Even if you are using mana regenerating consumables. Improving the amount of mana that life tap grants mean that the player will be able to cut down on the number of times they will need to cast life tap throughout a raid. The fewer life taps used means more global cooldowns saved, thus increasing overall DPS throughout the raid. Moreover, Aderlass scales with shadow damage, further increasing the benefit of this talent.

Verbesserter Blutsauger

Blutsauger does not have amazing DPS from the get-go. Increasing it further means you only get marginal gains. Most often this talent is not worth picking up.

Verbesserter Fluch der Pein

The issue with this talent is that it only affects the base damage of the spell. Resulting in very minor gains compared to other talents.

Teufelskonzentration

In raids you will not be draining often, and you should especially not be needing pushback reduction. However for leveling this a core talent for drain tanking. As is this incredibly valuable for PvP.

Fluch verstärken

This talent really only comes into play any time the warlock is permitted to use Fluch der Pein. It however is a significant buff and only requires a single point to pick up.

Grimmige Reichweite

Talents that increase the range of your abilities are very strong in Classic WoW. With these sorts of talents, warlock players will be able to not only position themselves better, but will also be able to avoid some abilities that players without extended range cannot. A good example of this would be Panik used by Magmadar.

Einbruch der Nacht

Einbruch der Nacht is one of the primary reasons people spec deep into the affliction tree. During a single target boss fight, this talent may only get you 1 or 2 extra Schattenblitz. However, this talent really starts to shine in scenarios where warlocks are can multi-dot.

Verbessertes Mana entziehen

Mana entziehen is only used in extremely niche situations such as draining mana from Moam, but even on this boss draining mana is not absolutely necessary to kill him. Since this ability is so situational, it is not recommended to invest points into it.

Schattenbeherrschung

This talent is the bread and butter of speccing deep into the affliction tree. Almost all of a warlock's damage in PvE is going to come from shadow damage except their AoE. This talent is essential for any affliction build.

Dunkler Pakt

This talent is amazing for leveling. It may be a max-tier talent point but you get it around the halfway point in your leveling journey. For raiding this talent being a "final" talent in a talent tree, it really is not too good. Warlocks that are specced deep into the affliction tree will never usually reach this talent since that would mean they would miss out on Verderben, which is incredibly important. Additionally, dark pact does not scale with spell power or any other stat like Aderlass does. For these reasons, this talent is not powerful enough to talent into.

Demonology Tree Talents

Verbesserter Gesundheitsstein

Erheblicher Gesundheitsstein, the version of healthstone after the effects of this talent is incredibly useful. Particularly because this item does not share a cooldown with potions. Tanks are able to use healthstones and Erheblicher Heiltrank simultaneously if their health dips dangerously low. Moreover, DPS and healers are able to restore health with healthstones while using DPS or mana-increasing potions. Different ranks in this talent also allow for the use of different types of healthstones.

Verbesserter Wichtel

Although this talent is useful, it is only actually included in the "Master Demonologist" spec. Which is not used often. Out of the other two viable raiding specs, only "Shadow Mastery/Ruin" uses an imp as a pet. However, this talent build has is unable to use any points to put into improved imp. If they do, they would miss out on either Schattenbeherrschung or Verderben.

Dämonische Umarmung

This talent is significantly valuable. First, let us look at the trade-off this talent offers. For every 1% spirit lost the warlock player will gain 3% stamina. Not only is this a three-to-one trade, but warlocks use health as a resource! Furthermore, out of all of the spell casting classes, warlock has the worst scaling with spirit. Demonic Embrace is a strong choice for any build that focuses on the Demonology tree.

Verbesserte Lebenslinie

Warlocks in Classic WoW will never need to use this talent. The only three demons a warlock player typically would use in any given raid is either Wichtel, Leerwandler, or Sukkubus. The voidwalker is typically used for the shield it provides with its ability Opferung and the succubus is used along with Dämonische Opferung. In either circumstance, the demon is not actually used for its combative prowess. The only one of the three demons mentioned that is used for its damage output is the imp and any time the imp is approaching a dangerous situation, the warlock player can simply use Phasenverschiebung to avoid taking damage rather than trying to heal the pet through the damage it takes.

Verbesserter Leerwandler

Improved voidwalker is a deceptively good talent. Players will rarely ever use voidwalker to tank anything. Making the improvement to torment, consume shadows, and suffering all useless. However, improving Opferung by 30% increases the bubble you receive by 571 damage! This shield can be used before a pull in situations where the warlock will be taking unavoidable damage. Not only does this improved shield help you survive, but also grants the warlock more time to cast without experiencing pushback on their spells!

Teufelsintelligenz

Out of the two talent builds that delve into the demonology tree (Demonic Sacrifice/Ruin and Master Demonologist/Ruin) only one actively has their demon out and that is the Master Demonologist/Ruin. For that talent build, this talent becomes quite useful since the primary pet used in the build is the Imp, which is highly dependant on its mana.

Verbesserte Sayaad

Improving the effectiveness of your Succubus' abilities is never necessary for Classic raiding. One could make the argument that the bonus from using a succubus along with Meister der Dämonologie could be good. However, the succubus is a fragile demon that will easily die under most raid scenarios. Especially since it has to enter melee range to be able to attack.

Teufelsbeherrschung

This talent is particularly useful for warlocks aiming for the "Demonic Sacrifice/Ruin" build, allowing them to perform the "FelDom trick." What this entails is being able to summon a voidwalker normally before engaging any boss encounter that has unavoidable and consistent damage (such as Vaelastrasz der Verdorbene and Feuerschwinge). As your main tank is about to pull the boss the warlock player will use the voidwalker's Opferung. Immediately following, use Teufelsbeherrschung to instantly summon a succubus to use Dämonische Opferung on. This way the warlock player has their demonic sacrifice buff that should always be up and have a shield all without missing a single moment of the boss encounter!

Teufelsausdauer

Fel stamina, unlike Fel Intellect, is not a talent used for Classic warlock raiding. The stamina gained through this ability is not significant enough to allow your demon tanking to be noticeably more impactful. Furthermore, the only demon commonly used actively in classic raids is the imp, which can use its Phasenverschiebung to avoid damage.

Meister der Beschwörung

Master Summoner is needed to be able to do the "Fel Dom" trick previously mentioned. This talent, along side Teufelsbeherrschung, allows the warlock player to summon a demon in just 0.5 seconds!

Unheilige Macht

Although this talent directly increases the damage of your non-Imp demons, it is actually not that useful. The only two viable raiding talent builds that actively use pets will primarily be using the imp. However, this talent is mandatory to get if the player is planning to spec into Meister der Dämonologie.

Verbessertes Dämon unterwerfen

Unfortunately in Classic WoW warlocks are unable to bring enslaved demons from the open-world into any given raid. When the player tries to, the demon will simply stay outside of the instance portal. Warlocks could technically enslave a demon within a raid, but demons within raids are typically level 63 which is over the level cap of Dämon unterwerfen.

Dämonische Opferung

This talent is a must for the "Demonic Sacrifice/Ruin" raiding build. Hence why the build is named after it! Typically, raiding warlocks will want demonic sacrifice their succubus granting them 15% increased shadow damage! The succubus is not the only demon that utilizes the demonic sacrifice talent though. In situations where the warlock is looking to primarily AoE with either Höllenfeuer or Feuerregen, then he/she will need to demonic sacrifice their imp for 15% increased fire damage.

Verbesserter Feuerstein

Firestones are not too useful in Classic WoW since they take up the warlock's offhand slot and there are other choices for the slot with better stats (such asFoliant der feurigen Arkane). Therefore, this talent is not optimal to put points into.

Meister der Dämonologie

Master Demonologist is only viable in the PvE spec "Master Demonologist/Ruin", hence why it is named after the talent! The primary reason anyone would go this far down in the demonology tree in PvE is to reach this talent so that they could use the imp to reduce threat reduction. However, there are some niche areas that will allow players following this spec to swap to succubus for added damage if they feel that their pet will be able to live through the boss encounter and their threat will not be an issue.

Seelenverbindung

Soul link is an extremely menacing ability. However, it is not used in raiding since anyone going far enough in the demonology tree to reach this ability will miss out on too many crucial other DPS increasing talents. Even though it is not so viable in PvE, it is one of the absolute strongest abilities to have for pvp!

Verbesserter Zauberstein

Spellstone is useful in some niche scenarios in PvE. However, this talent only grants Zauberstein herstellen (erheblich) 270 extra damage absorption which is good, but not worth committing the number of talent points necessary to reach this far down in the demonology tree.

Destruction Tree Talents

Verbesserter Schattenblitz

Although this talent is in the first tier of the destruction tree it is immensely powerful! Actually, this talent is one of the reasons why warlock players value critical strike rating so highly for PvE! With Schattenblitz leaving this debuff on a target, it will not only affect your damage, but any shadow damage done to the target! That means that the more warlocks that are in the raid and the higher the crit rating that those warlocks have the more the warlocks' and shadow priests' damage will increase!

Katastrophe

All forms of mana cost reduction is useful in Classic WoW. For warlocks, the more mana you save the less amount of times you will have to Aderlass. The fewer times you have to life tap the more time you will have to cast Schattenblitz!

Dunkle Macht

Although Bane effects three spells, Schattenblitz, Feuerbrand, and Seelenfeuer, the two used in raids are Schattenblitz primarily and a Feuerbrand from time to time. One of the best parts of this talent besides simply reducing casting time is that it keeps the spell's spellpower coefficients intact! Normally in Classic WoW, the longer the cast time or duration of a spell the better the spellpower coefficient is. Even though this talent reduces cast time, the spell's affected by this talent still scale off of their base cast time.

Nachwirkung

Aftermath is a talent that is not too impactful in Classic raids. The dazing effect this talent applies a slowing effect on enemies. However, all bosses and some trash mobs are immune to slowing effects. Even when certain enemies do need to be slowed, other classes have more effective ways to do so.

Verbesserter Feuerblitz

Both "Shadow Mastery/Ruin" and "Master Demonologist/Ruin" talent builds use the imp not only for buffs to their group, but additional DPS as well. In both of these builds players will want to take this talent to reduce the cast time of Feuerblitz by half!

Verbesserte Schmerzenspeitsche

While this talent is similar to the previous one (improved firebolt) in which it reduces the cooldown of the ability by half, players will not want to put talent points into this. The succubus is a much more fragile pet compared to the imp due to it not being able to Phasenverschiebung to avoid damage as the imp can. Moreover, the succubus is a melee range-based attacker which can oftentimes put it in even more danger.

Verwüstung

This talent is an absolute MUST have talent! Critical strike rating is a wonderful talent to have for any spellcaster DPS class in Classic WoW, but to add to its value warlocks will also have Verbesserter Schattenblitz to make this talent even more useful! Let us not forget that Devastation is also a prerequisite talent for Verderben.

Schattenbrand

This ability is important to pick up in any PvE talent build. Warlocks do not have many instant-cast abilities and this one even deals shadow damage! Instant cast abilities allow the warlock player to continue to use damaging abilities any time they need to move during an encounter. Even though instant cast abilities have poor scaling with spellpower, the fact that this one deals shadow damage allows spells to deal significant damage when proper debuffs are applied to the target.

Intensität

The majority of the time that warlocks are channeling their AoE spells there won't be any abilities that cause too much of a pushback. However, if your tank is not confident in their AoE tanking abilities and you over aggro this talent will come in handy (if you don't die..). This talent is a prerequisite for a more useful talent in the next tier of the destruction tree.

Zerstörerische Reichweite

Having increased range on your abilities does not affect the warlock on every single boss, but on some bosses, it can make or break your performance. Many bosses in Classic WoW have various different abilities, such as AoE fearing effects that warlocks are able to completely outrange only if they have this extended range.

Verbesserter sengender Schmerz

Sengender Schmerz is not a spell that warlocks will want to use frequently. Its DPS is not nearly as high as Schattenblitz. However, oftentimes there will be enemies that die too quickly to fit in a shadow bolt, but not quick enough to warrant only using Schattenbrand. That is where searing pain comes in! Searing pain is a great filler spell for scenarios just like that to maximize your damage output. Improved Searing Pain can be a great filler talent to put a few points in to progress further down the destruction tree.

Feuerschwall

In every single raid in Classic WoW warlocks will find themselves able to AoE in multiple different scenarios. Having Pyroclasm can help mitigate incoming damage to tanks and sometimes even interrupt spell casts from enemies.

Verbesserter Feuerbrand

While the talent would normally be great, it is not viable to spec into it. In earlier raids (Geschmolzener Kern and Pechschwingenhort) enemies have such high resistances to fire that they will either resist a large portion of the damage from immolate or be immune to it completely. Furthermore, speccing this far into the destruction tree forces the warlock to sacrifice other great talents in other trees.

Verderben

This is the talent that is required by every single viable raiding spec in classic wow and for good reason. Spells in classic wow have a critical strike multiplier of 150%. With Ruin the critical strike multiplier is increased by a whopping 50%, up to 200% increased damage! Having this talent is essential towards maximizing your damage output.

Glutsturm

Out of all of the talents throughout all three of the warlock talent trees Emberstorm has some of the best point-for-point values. The only problem with speccing far into destruction tree is that a warlock's fire spells do not have enough support to make it a viable raiding spec. Seelenfeuer has a great spellpower scaling, but has a 1-minute cooldown and uses a Seelensplitter every time. Sengender Schmerz has no cooldown, but has poor spellpower scaling and also generates an increased amount of threat. Feuerbrand also does not have great spellpower scaling and is not spammable since the player will be constantly overwriting their own DoT. This leaves Emberstorm truly only making you AoE stronger, but that is not enough to warrant spending talent points into it.

Feuersbrunst

Conflagrate, another instant cast spell is useful, but is essentially a lesser version of Schattenbrand. Conflagrate deals fire damage and not shadow, meaning it will have less % damage multipliers than a shadow spell would and it also requires the warlock to spend time casting Feuerbrand. Conflagrate can be great in PvP, but is simply not a viable talent for Classic WoW raiding.

Leveling WoW Classic Warlock Talent Builds

Affliction - Affliction is widely considered to be the best talent tree for leveling warlock as it gives you access to instant cast Verderbnis, as well as Lebensentzug. You will have a lot of passive damage as Affliction through placing damage over time effects (DoTs) on your enemies; between these DoTs, your pet, and your class' toolkit, killing several enemies at a time will be possible.

Drain Tanking - As you gain stats from leveling and gear, your pet will be struggling to keep threat off of you. Unfortunately, even with points in Verbesserter Leerwandler, your blueberry will struggle with keeping threat off you for very long. So, drain tanking is the most appropriate build - Using talents to increase the effectiveness of Blutsauger, you are able to maintain yourself healthy while taking on enemies. With talents like Dunkler Pakt to supplant your Mana, you will have little downtime from mob to mob.

SM/DS pvp build is a real thing but I don't see it listed here with the other pvp specs.

You get some sweet dot damage on it. It's great for players not interested in raiding since it is focused on dot damage. You sac your succy for the increased shadow damage. You just keep corruption, agony, and siphon life on as many targets as possible and mana tap/drain health to sustain. Non crit shadowbolts still hurt. The burst isn't anything like Ruin builds but the spread rot potential is amazing.

It's just a fun and a different spec for those not interested in raiding.

But what about sl/sl?

"You technically only need 3/5 points in this talent to counteract the 1.5 second global cooldown"
Is this saying that Corruption's 1.5 sec GCD becomes a 1.0 GCD after 3 points in Improved Corruption? Because if its just talking about making the cast time shorter than the 1.5 sec GCD than you only need two points in the talent for a 1.2 sec cast time.

Kommentar von Kapulio

i can't see the DS Ruin build - there's only a pic of the affliction skill tree.
may you re-upload that? thanks!

Drain soul does NOT have to be the killing blow damage to trigger the imp drain soul mana regen. I just wanted to correct this because this is a great talent. The target has to die from the casting warlock yes but the only requirement is that drain soul is channeling on the target when it dies. Any source of the warlocks damage while channeling (CoA, Corruption, Siphon, Immo) can kill the target and proc imp drain soul.

I don't know where everyone keeps getting their info from but as a reviewer I have to put things out there to rectify some of the misinformation floating around these guides.

1) Improved drain life is a bait talent and should never be taken, here's some math to back up my claims

Let us assume you are max level and are using drain life rank 6, with somewhere between full pre-raid bis to early raiding gear netting you an average of around 300 shadow spell damage give or take.

Drain life spell co-efficiency is 50% due to it's healing component, as such you would only benefit from half of your shadow damage, in this case only 150.

150/5= 30.

30+71 = 101 dmg/sec before %s.

(without improved drain life): 101*1.1= 111 dmg/sec
(with improved drain life): (101*1.1)*1.1= 122 dmg/sec

The difference of using 5/5 improved drain life is only : 122-111= 11 dmg/sec ; or a total of 55 damage/health gained, that is 11 extra damage per talent point, as you can see, it is abysmally weak even given optimal gear state for phase 1 as well as having shadow mastery, so it is advised to invest your points elsewhere, especially if you aren't going deep enough to get shadow mastery or maxing out improved drain life, in such cases where only putting a few points into it just for filler purposes would merely be throwing said points down the drain.

Highly recommend dumping filler points elsewhere.

2) Improved life tap is a MUST HAVE, in any scenario. Even in pvp the talents are picked, the less you have to hurt your hp to get mana back the better, this is especially useful when attempting to outlast players or when subjected to mana draining effects. Wasting points into garbage talents like improved drain life while keeping 0/2 in life tap is folly.

3) Fel concentration is a better "filler" to dump points into if you don't know where to put them,if you value having some form of emergency drain in case you need it, it is always better to put the points in concentration as having drain life pushed back even once will hurt you far more than having 10 extra hp on a tick, drain life is only slightly more efficient than it's mana cost at max rank and getting a single pushback on it shifts that into the negative value, since hp and mana are both resources warlocks have to manage, spending more mana to heal an amount that you will have to life tap into again will only bring you back to square one, it is always better to gain resources when using drains than to lose them.

4) curse of exhaustion is never worth taking at base value, if you choose to pick this talent up you should at the very least put 1 point into improved exhaustion so that when you amplify it your slow will be above 30% value, since the breaking point between a regular jog speed and walking is at 28% speed, a 30% slow on a person with movement speed enchant on boots will not break their stride and they will still catch up to you, at the very least you need 1 points into improved exhaustion to avoid this, though in most cases going down this path often leads to 3/4 improved exhaustion until you unlock shadow mastery. If you do not wish to invest down this path , do not pick the base curse of exhaustion talent period and instead dump your filler points into fel concentration.

5) Aftermath is a type of talent you either max or skip, 2/5 as a "filler" isn't worth it, 4% chance that your destruction spells will daze is abysmally low and an unreliable way of slowing someone as most of the time locks are either 1-2 shotting people at range while they are CCed or a melee is already on top of you with no room of actually benefiting from the slow, there is no in between where you will kite using this.

A better allocation of points for a pvp lock would be 2/5 improved searing pain as that increases your crit chance and searing pain has immense value when fighting melee classes that are in your face as it provides a 2nd school upon which you may bait interrupts on.

6) Going for a Nightfall/conflagrate build is dedicating yourself to the glass-canon playstyle, putting 1 point into demonic embrace instead of maxing out emberstorm is silliness at best, that 3% extra stamina is not going to save you if you fail to kill your opponent before they kill you, getting that extra 2% fire damage could be anything from 50-300 extra damage on a conflag or soul fire crit, which vastly out-weighs 1 point into demonic embrace...

7) improved firebolt for your Imp is only tolerated as an MD/ruin build, in any other situation ( especially a pve version of SM/ruin) you would be better spent using those 2 points into cataclysm since you will most likely be keeping your imp phase shifted so it doesnt die of collateral damage and most of your damage will be from chugging shadowbolts so reducing the mana cost of those will in fact be a much bigger dps increase than upping your imps' firebolts in this build.

I hope I've cleared up some of the misinformation in this guide so that people looking for help can get the proper info.

So, while Demonic Sacrificing your Succubus, your Life Tap will generate 15% more mana!

No it does not. Whether you Sac your Succubus or not, life tap generates same amount of mana.

Kommentar von kve1

if you are going into affliction tree for Shadow Mastery:
do not put points into improved drain life - drain life is useless without fel concentration, and amount of increased life drained is a joke
do not put points into improved CoA - 6% damage increase equals 80 damage per 15 sec, doesnt worth it
better put points into fel concentration: this talent allows you to fish for nightfall procs with drain life and makes your PvE life much better (drain tanking)

There is another allround option if you are fresh 60 or only want to raid occasionally, but still want to farm 19/21/11:
https://classic.wowhead.com/talent-calc/warlock/05002305022-2050300152201-50500001

You'll get the key talents for raiding AND farming. Bane for faster shadow bolts, fel concentration for farming, demonic sacrifice for farming OR raiding (sac void or succubus). Put the points in improved drain life in suspression if you dont' have enough hit for farming.
