Hand of Nilganihmaht - Secret Mount in Chains of Domination
Hand Mounts of Chains of Domination
are probably the mounts that players are looking forward the most once the patch releases this week.
was the only mount without a known source, but with a joint effort from players on the Public Test Realm, all steps for this mount have been found before the patch release! You can see a full guide on how to obtain the mount below. Thanks to
for their efforts on finding the mount! To find this mount, you must complete a myriad of activities within the Maw, as well as venture into the mysterious Rift dimension to claim the mount itself.
The Rift is a shadowy realm that exists within the Maw and Korthia, a side dimension that is mostly populated by shades and shadowy creatures. Some of the known portions of the Hand of Nilganimaht puzzle are located within the Rift. There are two ways currently known that players can venture through the Rift:
Players at Rank 4 or above with
are able to purchase
and use these to enter the Rift from several portals in Korthia. This way, you are able to explore the Rift in both Korthia and The Maw, although you will only be able to stay there for 15 minutes. Entrance to the Rift using this method is unlimited as long as you have Riftkeys to spare.
One of the quests that can show up during the Night Fae Assault,
, grants you an
that grants you access from The Rift from anywhere within the Maw. Using this method allows you to stay in the Rift for 10 minutes, and you can re-enter as many times as you want (as long as the Assault is active), but you cannot explore the Korthia portion of the Rift.
The Hand of Nilganihmaht
Forlong Respite is one of the caves players can find within the Planes of Torment in the Maw, and the cave where players seek refuge from Mawsworn forces during the Maw introduction questline. However, in the Rift, this cave changes a bit - In the Rift, the cave is instead named
Hollow of the Insolent
, and within it, you can find the aforementioned Hand of Nilganihmaht. The Hand is phased and can only be seen while in the Rift.
Each finger has a slot for a ring:
Next to the Hand is a book that can be looted, giving you
, a short story that tells you the tale of four souls that were sent to the Maw for their abusive ways, and continued their wicked ways while in the Jailer's domain. These souls were converted to the four Hand mounts in Chains of Domination -
and the one that serves as the star for this article,
With my shriveled hand do I, Varithoman the Penitent, recount the tale of four damned souls who, like me, were condemned to the darkest reaches of the Maw.
Yet while I learned humility through my suffering, these four carried on with their wicked ways. And answered for it.
May you, dear reader, trod a wiser path.
Kin from an ancient world were they. A place of power and might called Kerxan, where a race of giants dwelled.
Through guile and treachery, the four seized power. Commanded a vast army.
Two sisters and two brothers. Apart from each other, they trusted no one. Took no counsel. Showed no remorse.
Bahmethra was eldest. She was the cruelest, savoring the suffering of those she ruled.
Hrestimorak was the most conniving. He delighted in gaining trust only to betray it.
Salaranga was cunning. Mistress of mighty beasts that she trained to feed upon the blood of rivals.
Nilganihmaht was youngest, and by far the most arrogant and vain. He believed himself invincible. Untouchable.
Over the thousand years of their reign, they murdered countless rivals and gorged themselves upon the plunder. But their selfishness caused their own forces to weaken.
When the burning ones came, the armies of Kerxan were too depleted to defy them.
And even the four, for all their cunning, fell to the demon blades.
When the four arrived in the Maw, the Jailer beheld their litany of crimes and was pleased.
He bound their souls in massive armors, elevated them to become his chosen tormentors.
And how did they repay the honors bestowed by the Banished One? With treachery.
The four set out to usurp the Jailer's reign. They used guile and might to build an army of their own.
But the Jailer's Eye had witnessed their duplicity. Thus the master of the Maw was ready when they struck.
One by one, the giants fell.
The Banished One didn't merely destroy these defiant souls. No.
First he claimed a hand from each. A token, he said, to remind others of the folly of defying him.
And he bade me, his faithful chronicler, to make a record of their crimes.
Do you see? Do you understand?
To defy the Banished One is folly.
Bahmethra. Hrestimorak. Salaranga. And Nilganihmaht, he of the many rings.
Your hands will serve him for all time, even as your broken souls ride the currents of Gorgoa.
To assemble this ring, you must loot four Quartered Ancient Rings and reforge them together at a Soulsteel Forge in Zovaal's Cauldron. All Quartered Ancient rings can be found at Perdition Hold during a Necrolord Assault, but only if the quest
is available - As you will need the
vehicle accessible after the completion of the quest to access them.

Once you have all four Quartered Ancient Rings, just go to one of the Soulsteel Forges by Zovaal's Cauldron and click on them to forge the Stone Ring.
can be looted from the rare
. This rare is located in the Maw, usually at the same location as
near the Tremaculum, but can only be accessed while in the Rift phase. The ring appears to be another 100% drop from Torglluun.
This ring requires some parkour skills to get to it. The ring is atop a mountain formation overlooking the Crucible of the Damned and Calcis. You do not need anything special like Demon Hunter abilities to climb to it, but it can be a scary experience if you dread accidentally jumping off the edge of the Maw. You can watch a quick video below on how to climb to the ring:
/way 18.6 39.0 Climbing start
/way 19.1 32.2 Nilganihmaht's Gold Band
can be found inside the

One key has a low chance to drop from
located through the Desmotaeron. These are Elite mobs but can be solo'd with a decent amount of gear.
Another key can be found inside a building next to the cage that once held Danica during the campaign quest
. The second key is in
, located right next to the named mob
The next key can be found inside
, a drop from the Desmotaeron rare mob
. This seems to be a 100% drop as of the latest PTR build, although the rare is an Elite located in an area surrounded by elites.
The last key can be found within
s located at a couple locations through the Desmotaeron. Keep your eyes peeled for these, as they will not show on your minimap.
Once you have the four Seal Breaker keys, simply head to the Domination Sealed Chest and unlock it for your Silver Ring.
The last ring is perhaps the most boring of them all - It is a drop from the rare
. This rare can be located at the top level of Domination Keep in Perdition Hold. To approach this rare, you must craft or have someone with a
open the portal to the rare. The Calling does not spawn the add, only makes the portal spawn so people can climb there.
Assembling the Mount
Once you obtain all five rings, all you need to do is return to the Rift and head to the cave where the Hand of Nilganihmaht is at. Once there, place all 5 rings at their specific slots and once you do, the Hand will come back to life and offer you the quest
. Hand the quest in and receive your
