Art Blast: Mat Kolbeck - Centaur Props and Dead Dragons

ArtStation Magazine recently published another
Art Blast
, this time focused on the visuals for Dragonflight. The piece featured selections of the work of many Blizzard artists focusing on their particular specialty. The art departments at Blizzard consistently knock the ball out of the park with their work - we are going to feature a few of these artists and spotlight what they made for Dragonflight.
Mat Kolbeck is a prop artist at Blizzard. In addition to some of the new professions equipment, he worked on set dressing items that really make the world come alive.
Obviously you can't have the Dragon Isles without having showing some of the remains of dragons throughout the Isles. I got to make the dragon bones kit which included a bunch of variants in order for the world building team to display a variety of unique skeletal remains and poses. This kit also included charred variants for use in all of the lava pools throughout the Isles.
Part of the large dragon skeleton kit was making several variants of dragon skulls. These were a ton of fun, especially the charred variants. I also got to do several cut up dragon parts including some heads.
The Maruuk Centaur were the first kit I got to spearhead and it was a ton of fun to work on.
The Horn of Drusahl was a fun and challenging project I got to tackle. It's a symbol of the pact between the Green Dragonflight and the Maruuk Centaur. As such, I had a lot of fun making something that not only a gift from the Green Flight, but guarded and adorned by the Maruuk. It had to represent both cultures to as it is the physical representation of their oaths to each other.
