One of, if not the best tanking trinkets in the game at this point. What makes it even better is that the drop rate is somewhat reasonable, and will allow all the tanks in your guild to be geared with this rather quickly.

Pre-TBC this is the best main tank trinket in the game, with Onyxia blood right behind it.

At level 70, Styleen's easily remains among the best tank trinkets in the game. In my opinion, a suitable upgrade has yet to be implemented.

It drops in Blackwing Lair, an instance full of bosses that take forever to kill, that a Paladin will never, ever tank.

a paladin is not a good tank. sure, u got plate armor, sure u got some useful seals, BUT u need mana to cast them. whereas a warrior is more efficient the more his ass gets kicked, a paladin is only capable of holding aggro as long as his mana allows him to do so.
another point: a good tank is more than a aggro machine. uve gotta take as little damage as possible, despite holding aggro. defensive stance = 10% less damage. def spec = +10 def skill, +10% armor, +5% block chance, +5% dodge chance, 2 guaranteed blocks every 7 secs, stun resistance etc. a paladin lacks most of these things.

I'm not going to argue that pallies are better or even as good as warriors, but this is what paladins have:

+10 def skill, +10% armor, +5% parry chance, +30% chance to block after being critted, +30 chance to block in the form of a spell that can block up to 4 times and be used every 8 sec(these stack so although not as useful individually used, but together gives you the guarateed block warriors get(also the spell block does holy damage which helps threat generation if the mob is judged with fury)), and 25% more damage blocked by shield.

Plus a paladin is not dependent on another class to get +60 to resistances and/or another 800 armor from aura's, not too mention with improved lay of hands they can throw that on themselves if the healers are getting low on mana, and get a 30% armor boost and get a bit more mana (providing they were oom when they cast it) for additional threat generation abilities. Also judging a mob with wisdom while using seal of fury, the JoW can proc several times per hit allowing fairly rapid mana regeneration while still building threat.

A warrior is still a better tank overall, because they have several other "Abilities" a pally does not, and of course the LoH can only be used once every 40 min (1 hour without talent points), not too mention LoH can be used on a warrior so that's not really a good arguement to begin with. However, of what you listed we have it all, except the stun resistance of course, which is possible to shield out of but as a tank that's never a good idea unless as a very final last resort.

This trinket totally kicks major ass and I want it very much, but it would of course go to a "Protection Warrior" before me. Obviously an arms, or fury warrior will be not using a shield as often therefore a "Protection Pally" gets the next shot at it.

A Warrior is a tank, first in foremost. That is what they are designed to do. They are designed to sit there and hold aggro while they get pounded to hell. The combination of buffs and heals keep this Ultra Advanced Target Dummy alive while the enemy gets gang raped by the rest of the raid party.

This is not what the Paladin was designed for. Despite having a protection tree, they cannot possibly tank at the same level as a warrior can. In my opinion, Paladin prot specced is the 2nd best tank in the game. A decked out paladin may even out tank a crappy-geared warrior.

However, when your in an instance such as MC / BWL, you cannot have a 2nd best tank. You gotta have the BEST possible tanks in place, which are the warriors. This is for the good of the guild.

BTW my main is a 60 paladin, and I love playing him. But I know what my role is, and its not to tank. Its to provide important secondary support for all other classes.

im a druid and rolling on this for tanking would be like spending dkp on thunderfury. I cant use it and it takes away from others. Paladins useing shields to tank with in end game isntances dosnt happen. If the main tanks are down and battle resses are down the drudis go bear and tank. Not the paladins. then when we go down its consindered a wipe. so why do pallys need shield block increase in end game instaces. they dont. end of story. Shut up you noobs and post here after youve done end game instaces. if ou are not a warrior i dont want you to post anything on this EVER again

Last run we got this trinket. And all warriors that don't have it yet were not in the raid. Healerdine won it by overbidding our "tanking" rogue (sometimes he tanks for fun bosses like Onyxia or some ZG bosses and does it quite well - just need more healing then usual tanks). This is plain simple - as soon as all warriors have it, someone should pick it up. It's a waste to DE it. And I am sure that each top guild that has BWL on farm status sooner or later will start to give it to pallies.

Paladins can tank. Except it can't be a boss, or anything that anyone else in the party is hitting at all. But if there's an add loose for whatever reason, then a healadin can take him off to the side somewhere until the tank gets to it. As for being a MAIN TANK, or even a primary OT, um.... LOL! Whats sad is that Blizzard actually thought it would be a good idea to ruin Deathbone Armor by turning it into a tanking set for paladins. I'm sure it's great for places like Stratholme and all, where a hunter could tank if he wanted to.

Bottom line, if you are serious about wanting to tank, then roll a warrior. Most of our talents and abilities are geared towards generating massive threat and being able to take massive punishment without dying from it.

I just received the Scrarab last night, first for our guild.

I can't decide now on which trinket combo to use for physical damage tanking.

Should I use the scarab with the life giving gem or should I use the scarab with the Ony trinket.

Edit to add: I'm prot, have 7/8 wrath, have both zg enchants, heavy dark iron ring, medallion of steadfast might, Overlord's Embrace...meaning I have plenty of defense. Just wondering if using Lifegiving Gem instead of Ony trinket is the way to go.

The drop rate seemed to be low for the longest time and finally I got one. Awesome trinket for sure.

First the MT's (Main Tanks) will receive this trinket followed by the OT's (Off tanks) Then DPS warriors will get it. Than yes, Paladins.

Got it an hour ago, we've been lucky I guess, had 2 drop in 6-7 kills (2 Ashandi's too) =D

3 months and yet to have a SINGLE wrath helmet drop though.

And well, I do notice the extra blocked damage, and the 5% more block is really nice. 13 defense on top on that and this is THE perfect trinket as far as I know =)

Oh, and hunterweaponlololol!111oneone and all that ;)

I'm a Paladin - and I want it as well. I have crafted the Force Reactive Disk for myself (See? I do MC already! :p) and since the pally is very low on choices with +block (essential for using the FRD), I'd try to get every bit I can get. I already have the +2 block% enchant + Darkrune Gauntlets, and since I can't use the Might/Wrath pieces, this is one of my last options for added block%.

But ofcourse, tanks get priority on this baby :)

The level 50 paladin "wants to be the owner of that". Well.. Unless you are in a better raid than I can imagine, you will never, ever have that item.

It will have to drop a number of times equal to the number of warriors in the raid before you can get a chance of aquiring one. lol

Edit: And isnt it sad that Blizzard make stuff like this and plan to remove a huge chunk of its beauty in the next patch? -33% defence on items.. Yummie. =/

a few things i am 'omg'ing...first of all, why are all the first posts on allah always "where does this drop?" KID how did u get to this page besides having already been searching a BWL boss that you knew was a BWL boss, or just were too ridiculously and utterly slow to read that it says Blackwing Lair over every conceivable link to this page. I mean there was no way you could click any link to this page and it didn't say Blackwing Lair right above it. No offense to you people here, I have wanted to post that all up and down allah for weeks! This site is very well designed, once i found this i immediately stopped using Thot (while my french is ok, german is nilch, I dont like having to translate video game information to english for myself, not to mention lots of other gripes with that site). But beyond that, I came really to ask Bliz why oh why this item isn't "Classes: Paladin, Warrior, Shaman" item. It's like they want a rogue to get this and be like "what, defense is good for me!" Personally doesn't effect me as hunter who is smart enough to not roll for this. But i feel bad for the hearthache this item is naturally going to cause for all of you when working with, as mentioned above, the obviously 'high-caliber' minds of the average WoW player...

Very nice trinket.
Not sure why all the people not in guilds that have killed him would argue over who gets it. Seems like the guilds that have done it would be in a position to discuss that.

My guild is horde, but if we were alliance we'd have let a paladin buy that. You need to understand, guilds that have beaten through Firegor in BWL are already well geared from MC and the rest of BWL--the argument of loot classes is still present but much less important.

So when does a Paladin tank? I was very confused about the listing of this item on http://www.wow-loot.com/raid-bwl.htm at first but now that I think about it. The +13 Defense is great and would benefit a guild more on a Feral Druid than on a Paladin. (let the beating begin)
