With the exception of The Restrained Essence of Sapphiron (Naxx), this trinket gives out more overall dps than any of the pre-BC trinkets available.
yes, excellent trinket for any dps caster!
I would have to agree that this trinket is a must-have for any dps caster, but it is important to note that Mind Quickening Gem
is better in fight such as C'thun in AQ40 where burst dps is the key. The best combination, of course, would be this Tear combined with MQG.
Everyone one loves damage, and hates to see their spells miss, which is why this is one of the best trinkets in the game so far.
Unfortunately , this item is going to be nerfed big time during the expansion , since from +2%hit its going down to ~+1,3%hit at 70 , not to mention that it will age a lot due to the new item formula used for TBC items.
Neltharion was the Earth Warder, Aspect of the Black Earth Dragonflight. He was driven mad and became Deathwing, in the process wiping out most of the dragons during the War of the Ancients. During this event, he shed one last tear before going insane.
For those casters seeking to upgrade they're trinkets in The Burning Crusade, this trinket remains the second best passive trinket, after Quaqmirran's Eye.
Dropped from Nefarian
Whenever an item can be used by Mage, Priest, Warlock and Druid all classes try to exclude eachother.
One of the most cliche&*!@talk discussions usually is about shadow, where priests and warlock fight eachother for an item that suits them both.
- "Priests can use it as well as warlocks! "
- "Yes IF THE WARLOCK HAS IT ALLREADY !"
- "No this is a PvP server - Pvp is half of this
- game so as a priest i have the right to roll
- against a lock on this !"
And so on .. sounds familiar ?
And now you guys take it to the next level and talk about Melee chars rolling ON THIS ITEM OVER A CASTER !
IF you kill that poor Neltharion/Deathwing guy dont you think you would be in a guild run? or at least in a group with ppl, with which you've done millions of instance raid runs before, and have come to trust , and who HAVE heard of ML !
Or would it just be a random raid group you pick up in IF ?
And as for the moron stating that its "not as much a warlock thing" : Quit playing please!
Talk sense to a fool and he wil call you foolish
Yeah just got this today, our 1st kill as well.
I have the most dkp (by far) and would kindly pass if any of our mage/lock have problem with me taking it. Fortunately, they feel i derserve it and there was no problem at all.
To all other shaman/druid claim they have a fair chance on this item, i feel sorry for your guild mage/lock. And if you even, i meant even argue this item will help you pve wise, you are an idiot. I'm taking this fully for pvp itention. My mindtap and mana trinket are both better for healing.
And @dps shaman: lol, have fun dpsing in raid content.
Moral of story is you just dont take whatever you want for your own char progression. Learn your place, talk to your guildie, think! To be able to progress further pve wise, you must be considerate and not just let everyone take whatever they please. It doesn't mean you can not have it, but really dont lie to yourself it will help your guild progression because it doesn't.
Abis 60 Shaman Cho'gall.
I play in a closeknit guild of friends. If my buddy is a paladin and he wants this I'll be happy for him. If he's a warrior and he want's it I'll send him to a phycologist and, pending his diagnosis, I'll be happy for him. I'm a priest and my guild's warlocks let me have sash of whispered secrets -- before any of them even had their tier 1 belts. No hard feelings. No whining. Love covers a multitude of sins... including gear and class confusion
This trinket is Mage/Lock/Shadowpriest priority, even if priests dont have spells which gives them 100% of the +spelldmg they will get the same use of it as mages/lock.
If a spell takes 3,5sec to cast youll get 100% of the +spelldmg but if it takes 2 sec to cast, youll get about 60% of the +spelldmg, so if your casting for 2min both, youll do the same amount of dmg more with this trinket.
This trinket shouldnt go to palas/shammys/druids, couse they will mostly use them in pvp, and no single raidleader will let someone get the trinket for pvp if someone needs it for pve and bids on it.
Here's my take on the whole PvP v PvE/Mage, Warlock v Priest, Paladin debate.
The healing/damage benefits all four classes. However, the 2% to hit benefits only mages and warlocks in end game RAIDING (for the most part....obviously some priests are able to go shadow).
So I would give this trinket to the mages/warlocks who are core raiders first. If they have the trinket, chances are the raid will be able to farm instances faster (therefore more loot for all).
However, some priests and pallies want to get good gear for PvPing (be fair who doesn't like to go around bashing some heads). If the core locks/mages don't need it, give it to a core raider pally/priest over some newb lock/mage. They've definately put the work over some newb and they will certainly make good use of the trinket in PvP and in PvE (44+ healing isn't laughable).
Its definitely up there. For passive trinkets, it can only approached by a few trinkets:
For PvE boss fights (17% miss rate), NT is an insane trinket, with an expected +64-70 dmg output.
Rune of Perfection is about +60 dmg with at least 20 resistance (mostly important if you PvP or are a fire spec mage). Rune of the Dawn is even better against most undead mobs (lvl 60 and lower for most mages/locks), but the lack of +hit really hurts in comparison against anything high level.
Other good complimentary passive trinkets to pair with NT are Briarwood Reed and Eye of the Beast.
Against activatable trinkets, Restrained Essence of Sapphiron is comparable, and the combination of REoS and NT would probably give you the best trinket combo in the game. Eye of Moam, ToEP, ZHC, and MQG are also very strong options.
I would like to add here, that if your guild is a PvP guild, and you don't plan to progress far into AQ40 or Naxx, then healers and offensive casters alike should have a fairly equal chance at this trinket. However, for any serious PvE guild, offensive casters will get a lot more out of this. That said, the odd competent and well geared balance druid, shadow priest, or elementalist shaman would definitely NOT waste this trinket.
Just make sure you're giving it to someone who knows their stuff, and not just a greedy loot$%^&*, no matter what their class. This is a sure beauty of a trinket. Don't waste it. =)
a combo of which two would do the most dmg in BWL/AQ?
Well it seems you know your class mate.
However, my guild stopped at golemagg. We did not finish the instance.
Also, my dps would have been considerably higher that 1.2 million if I was not on full decursive on 3 boss fights (luci, gehannas and shazz).
In addition, most of the time I was just using plain frostbolts or arcane missiles. There is not much aoe to be done in mc.
If you go to a instance where more aoe is to be had, mage dps skyrockets. No class can compete with aoe from mages. ZG is a prime example of this.
we GIVE our moonkins equal rights to bid on any cloth items that drops. And they NEVER EVER put out as much damage as our mages. And they are out of mana after 2 minutes.
This trinket STILL has the best base +spell damage
Actually Neltharion was his name before he gave himself over to the dark side when he ws the Guardian of earth. He then became Deathwing and needed mssive armor plating to contain is own power. So in a way he's kind of the Darth Vader of the dragons. Except Ony and Nef did not become good. They just followed in ther daddy's footsteps.
our warrior took it for taunt resists
I'm a full shadow preist, and I'm actually on top of damage meters (just under the rogues and over locks and mages). All the locks love me for my shadow vulnrability, all the mages love for my shield, and the rogues... well they don't give a @#$%. So I was wondering, I get resisted often, I don't have a good trinket, and I got a shiload of DKP. Would it be unussefull for the guild for me to loot it? Or would a mage or lock actually benefit MORE than me... I mean, It happens that I pop out to heal so I use to + heal AND the + dmg, and I could use the + hit. How do mages and locks benefit more than a full shadow preist?
It vendors for 20g...thats almost a brilliant chromatic scale.
Got it yesterday at Dragonmaw, EU.
Ossian, 60 Mage
Posting to point agian that this is still the best trinket in the game. Yes, better than the DPS trinkets to me, because I'm not the kind of player who pops up his trinkets and his cooldowns for one big shot, like Pom+Pyroblast. The top PvP players have adapted to this style and they simply block your @#$% with Ice Block or pally bubble or even the engineer trinket reflectors.
Nel's Tear however is consistent and kick ass in both PvP and PvE.
this neltharion is a big crybaby!
Just to spite the Mages and Locks, my goal is to one day get this for my Moonkin.
This makes up for that new mage set
Best caster trinket in the game. Got mine two days ago. Now I have one trinket slot for Eye of the Beast, Briarwood Reed, Rune of the Dawn, Mind Quickening Gem and ZHC. =/

what about priest this "improve your chance to hit with spell" is making this item so crapy for us .
execpt for full shadow priest .
am i wrong =)?
The margin is not that high, ok for shadow priests...
btw is there any better trinket still? Nearly finishing Karazhan and could not find a better trinket.. This one owns
So... Awesome.. Blows any Mage trinket i've ever seen out of the water. +44 damage is awesome in itself, but +2% hit? Thats like.. like.. I dunno. But it kicks ass. Man.. i gotta get my guild moving into BWL. *Cracks whip* move! move! ;P
@ Expjah, your Warrior is a greedy son of a @#$%^, he's even Fury specced. What a retard.
ToEP + ZHC or ToA > NT
Where can I farm this item? I have been killing mobs in EPL and haven't seen it drop yet. :-(
In my opinion this should go to
s since they got more trinket options and have it easier getting items with hit, especially with the release of
which enables them to get 2% extra hit from Head and Leg enchants.
Just got Netharion’s Tear yesterday. This was LCed to me. The only warlock. Many other factors played a part. I’m at every raid no matter how painful the progression wipes. I’m an expert on the Warlock class and lead all other locks during raids with regards to curses and utility assistance to the raid and provide creative solutions to raid issues. Some of the guild mages attempted to sabotage me for this item claiming trivia objective narratives and I had debate them that’s its indeed a Warlock priority item.
Points I made:
-Warlock options for hit is only from gear while mages have several options for hit and trinkets. Eg. ZG chants, talents and gear options.
-Warlocks need hit to tank the Twin Emperors AQ
-I’ve been dedicated and used tons of golds worth of Consumables
-I’m an expert on the Warlock class and class lead for my guild.
Many more reasons that I could list.
If you have a dedicated loyal core raider game Warlock, this is a no brainer Warlock Prio item. If you don’t have any good locks then a mage should be next for consideration. Several sources back this logic up. Greedy mages just want it but don’t need it as much. As long as your LC isn’t corrupt this should be going to the Loyal Guild Warlock if you want to clear AQ without pugging a lock that has enough hit to tank Twin Emps.
