As you gain more +damage this trinket becomes better and better. Depending on the length of a given fight it will most certainly beat out ToEP & ZHC.

Going along with xabbott, this trinket is the best scaling caster dps trinket in the game currently. It scales so well and provides so much burst that it's on a 5 minute cooldown as opposed to the 2 minute cooldown of ZHC. I would continue using this trinket even at level 70 in the Burning Crusade. It provides the most use during those fights a bit longer than 5 minutes as you would get to use it twice as opposed to using it once in fights a tiny bit less than 5 minutes. Planning trinkets according to boss fight length provides a key increase in dps.

I just got this trinket about 3 weeks ago. I love it! It's perfect for boss fights cause the cooldown is up by the time your at the next boss. I never thought about using it for water (gonna do that).

if you have MQG,QE,BoW,Berserk (trolls only) and a shammy to cast on you samo Bloodlust your cast will be just about 0,6-0,7sec (for frostbolt) ....

You have to understand that lowering any cast time to under 1.5 seconds is useless because the golbal cooldown is 1.5 sec. I have the Blade of Wizardry and Quag's Eye and i become very peeved when they both proc while im stacking scorches, its a waster of a proc because Scorch = 1.5sec cast.. with Blade proc and Quag's Eye proc it becomes a 0.955 sec cast... with the global cooldown.. i cast scorch and then wait .545 seconds to cast another scorch.. This is why i liek this trinket, its not a chance on hit, its a use =D.. so when ur downing a boss you can tell your shaman to pop Bloodlust and then you urself pop this trinket making fireballs around 2.1sec(ish) cast (correct me if im wrong) thats when the procs from BoW and Quag's Eye become really useful =)

If you are a troll mage this could be pretty nice if used right. If this and berserk stack you would get a Fireball with the castingspeed of a scorch, i would give my left arm for that ;)

Sunstrider does the same maths I just did (wish I'd scroled down first). It basicaly represents 2 extra frostbolts which is nice in PvP (if you get chance) and in some fairly important PvE situations it is usefull too (e.g. it may allow you to solo a son of flame).
On average though a 5 min cooldown means it is limited, 3 min cooldown would make it a lot more attractive but realy it should be a partner to ToEP and have 90 sec, I think they will fix it to that at some point in the future.
As things stand the reed is better though because it improves mana efficiency as well as damage output, it just isn't as flexable as being able to go into god mode for 13 seconds.

Actualy like all the class trinkets this is realy for PvP / battlegrounds. Also it realy shines more with Fire spec because of the way speed effects + damage gear and the high crit chance, resistance to interuption etc. Scorch build being able to kick out 4 scorch debuffs in less than 5 sec and then whack out some ToEP fireballs for the win.

Yes it's possible to switch trinkets...
But not in combat. Meaning, in a 3:00+ raid boss fight, the Briarwood Reed is much better.
Making this trinket, total crap in PvE instances, pretty good in PvP Battlegrounds, but I must agree with the above mage. The besst use is conjuring water for a thirsty raid. Or even better! Opening a portal in only 7.5 seconds rather than 10.

This trinket is amazing, I don't know what all those people are saying. Perhaps they just think they know what it would be like. But I have it and I can tell you, it is awesome. I lasts a whopping 20 seconds, for one thing. Don't tell me you can't do silly damage in 20 seconds as a fire mage with FIREBALLS casting every 2.25 seconds. Also, it affects the global cooldown, which is incredible in PvP. This trinket is quite situational, yes, but when you need it and use it it is simply awesome.
The only drawbacks are that it lights you up with lightning just like Arcane Power, which really makes you more of a target than you already are in PvP, and the cooldown. In my opinion, it was stupid of Blizzard to make this the same animation. When you're AP people are gonna try to CC you like mad, and that's the last thing when you're trying to utilize faster casting time. It should have no graphic, and you should hide behind a stump or in a bush when you use it and nuke nuke nuke. Use it for the full 20 seconds then blow PoM on another target and you'll have several dead enemies around you and they won't know what hit them.
This trinket is awesome, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Can anybody say how exactly the casting time is calculated, especially relating to talents?
For example, a Frostbolt has a casting time of 3 seconds, 2.5 with talents. If your mind is 25% faster (so the speed is 125% of normal), the casting time should be 80% of normal (1/1.25 = 0.8).
Does this apply before the talent reduction like this:
( 3 seconds * 0.8) - 0.5 seconds = 1.9 seconds
or after that, like this:
(3 seconds - 0.5 seconds) * 0.8 = 2.0 seconds.
The difference seems to be small, but we know that a 1/10 of second does matter in some situations, and it *nominally* corresponds to an increment in damage of 25% (2.5/2.0=1.25 in the 2.0 seconds case) or 32% (2.5/1.9=1.32 in the 1.9 seconds case).
I think it makes it a great trinket for PvP and also amazing in some PvE encounters (Vaelstrasz/Chromaggus) when you need to unload all your stuff in few seconds. For those saying that the Briarwood Reed is better... think of the context. If you have Burning Adrenaline, and you'll blow up in 20seconds, you don't need a 2% damage boost from the Reed, you need this Gem.
Also consider this trinket shares the same cooldown of the Talisman of ephimeral power and the Zandalarian Hero Charm.

The one situation in PvE where this would be useful would be against the boss that drops it. If you get burning adrenaline on you, the 18 seconds of instant fireballs/frostbolts with a global cooldown of 1.20 seconds would be great. If you couldn't top 1k dps in that 20 seconds, you have problems.
Otherwise, this is a useful but somewhat limited PvP item, as the cooldown really hurts.

Is global cooldown of 1 seconds on all spells affected by this item? Does cooldown become 0.75 second when casting IAE / CoC / Blast Wave / Frost Nova and other instant spells?

No it isnt.... A global cooldown is a global cooldown and is put there for the reason that its a universally unchangable cooldown thats INTENDED to balance the class agianst other classes and has to do with the Mechanics of the 1 action and 1 move system by which the game is based on.
ALSO this trinket pwns.... crunch the numbers... it increases ur DPS by alot and if u cant pull AGGRO off your MT with it and a good TOEP or ZHC right after.. WELL then mebbe you should put down the Pipe with wahtever it is your smoking, stop sipping that beer, and concentrate.... ALSO make sure your using your highest rank fire or frostbolt.... sometimes it makes me wonder if alot of the mages are literally crying as they type some of this stuff... DO YOU WANNA SEE A worthless trinket check out the shaman's natural alignment Crystal. Or the Hunter Arcane infused Gem..

Our guild mages werent willing to pay dkp for it, so it was rolled among the mages.
Imo its really nice trinket for those mages who want to prove their skill with more than just laser.

Any item that can increase damage by a percentage will always be very useful since it will always ramp in relation to spec, other items etc. So in time other trinkets will become less useful, ones like these will remain the same.. 25% casting cost reduction will increase its damage output constantly as your character spec and item template evolves.
Quite a nice imo ;)

Okay. If you are a troll mage such as I, you would be using this trinket alot.
the 33% faster cast and the 10-30% from beserking can be made into a 63% faster cast-Meaning that this will more than halve a fireball into a 1.5 sec cast or a frost bolt into 1 sec, This should give you enough time to reign havoc onto your enemy. With this combo you can freeze a mellee class get as far as possible and then unleash atleast 2 or 3 fire balls! OH MAH GOSH!

This is a great tinklet. better then arcane power. Agreed not very good for the hard pve fights
U can say wat u want but in the end it all comes down to pvp. Not about looking cool in ironforge or orgimmar with ur gear.

combustion + MQG = insane ignite rolls, because usuallu critting 3 fireballs in a row will not roll ignite, but with the speed cast improvement they will roll
if a fight lasts over 5 minutes, combine fetish of the sandreaver, with mqg and combust to use it at the start of the fight and not pull aggro (they do stack)

I just got this on Sargeras Server. Yes its still a 5 minute cooldown, it's incredibly fun to use. It does share a cooldown with ZHC at least (since I have ZHC, Mind Quickening Gem combo now), so I'd assume it'd share a cooldown with ToEP too. Since my guild marked down the Class Trinkets in dkp cost, cause they can seem worthless compared to other trinkets, I got this for cheap DKP too. If it had a 3 minute cooldown it'd be better than ZHC and ToEP definately. But since it has a 5 minute cooldown you're only gonna get it off once in a boss fight... not twice like toep or zhc. Still a fantastic Trinket IMHO

Cooldown is 5 minutes, I like its usefullness for a lot of the BWL encounters, and its pretty funny to puke out frostbolts and getting frostbite proc with this thing, both in duels and in fighting elite mobs. However, I am now officially labeled the best water-maker on my server (Kor`gall EU) ;)

i'be had mine about a week now and its really good :) balancing all the cooldowns is a pain though...
my best-burst - POM - ToEP + Pyro + MQG + fireball till MQG runs out
in 1.5 mins ToEP comes back so use it again -
in 3 mins POM comes back and ToEP comes back so use
in 4.5 mins ToEP is back oncemore - BUT i wait
5 mins MQG is back - now i have to decide if i wait 1 min for POM or just use MQG + ToEP.
gives me a bloody headache i tell ya :p
but the water pours in and the damage pours out... and i got the first that droped for my guild so i'm happy^^

Alright, this is to compare the ToEP with the Mind Quickening Gem.
Say that your frost bolts are hitting for 800 every 2.5 seconds.
You activate the Gem and get 1.875 casting times for frost bolt.
The total damage you will do in 15 seconds will be around 6400. (15 divided by 1.875 multiplied by 800)
In the exact same situation, where you spam frost bolts after activating the ToEP, each one will be hitting for around 975 for 15 seconds, and the casting time is 2.5 seconds.
Your total damage in these 15 seconds will be approx 5850. (15 divided by 2.5 multiplied by 975.)
Therefore Mind Quickening Gem > ToEP slash Zandalar hero charm.

You have to scale the +dmg from the other trinkets, as they scale with % modifiers such as CoE, Piercing Ice, Arcane Instability, etc.
So the only way to truly compare MQG with ToEP/ZHC/ToA is to ignore all percentage modifiers and do it based on +dmg alone.
Now we all know that MQG scales based on total +dmg (increases casting speed) while ToEP/ZHC/ToA scale based on only their own +dmg. The difference being MQG's extra damage is based on how many "extra" bolts you get off, while ToEP/ZHC/ToA depend on their shorter cooldown for many bolts with extra +dmg tacked on to make the difference.
So a pure comparison is based on total damage added with a constant amount of +dmg. Lets use +550dmg and Rank 11 frostbolt, because I believe this is a good attainable number, for mages who are in guilds who are farming BWL, and have picked up this trinket and the new rank along the way.
Untalented R11 frostbolt with +550dmg = 983 average damage
First for PURE theorycrafting. For sustained damage over an instance, lets use a common denominator of 30 minutes and 20 seconds for ZHC, MQG, and ToEP.
MQG gets 30/5 + 1 = 7 uses. In each of these uses, the player gets 20/(2.5*0.75) - 20/2.5 = 2.67 extra casts. This translates into 2621 extra damage per use, or ~ 18350 damage added over 30 minutes.
ToEP gets 30/1.5 + 1 = 21 uses. In each of these uses, the player gets (15/2.5)*175*0.814 = 855 extra damage. This translates into ~ 16950 damage added over 30 minutes.
ZHC gets 30/2 + 1 = 16 uses. In each of these uses, the player gets (204+187+170+153+136+119+102+85)*0.814 = 941 extra damage. (yes, the tool tip is incorrect) This transates into ~ 15056 damage added over 30 minutes.
ToA gets 30/1 + 1 = 31 uses. In each of these uses, the player gets (200+160+120+80+40)*0.814 = 488 extra damage. This translates into ~ 15140 damage added over 30 minutes.
So for sustained damage in zero lag conditions, the order of damage added is MQG > ToEP > ToA > ZHC.

DO NOT SPEND DKP ON THIS ITEM. since blizzard is full of a bunch of retard lazy programmers, they decided to recycle the AP spell animation. Don't count on using this in pvp, even the reduced cast speed won't help you when you get targetted and counterspelled by every !@#$ing enemy on the field...
trinket is trash, take it if you want to make faster water, because thats all its good for.

For those new to Classic, Spell Haste (itemized as Casting speed) works differently from the live game.
Spell Haste only makes cast-time spells cast faster. It does not affect channeled spells or DoTs/HoTs. It also does not reduce the global cooldown, which is capped at 1.5 seconds.
With that in mind, it is important to know that this trinket will
not
have any effect on spells like Arcane Missiles, Blizzard, or Evocation. It will make Flamestrike cast faster, but it won't make its periodic damage tick faster.
(Note: In Burning Crusade: Classic, spell haste does affect channeled spells and the global cooldown. However, it continues to have no effect on DoTs or HoTs until Wrath (differently from retail), and will not exhibit retail behavior overall until Cataclysm.)
