Apparently neither of you two has ever played a shaman to its maximum potential... Yes, stamina and intellect increase your survivability, but in long fights, all that really matters is stamina and spirit... if you have good gear, (i don't even have any epics except hide of the wild, and i have over 6300 mana) you will have plenty of intellect to start with, and around 3500-4k hp. Once your mana is blown, you are completley $%^&ing USELESS. This is where spirit comes in. Spirit makes taking a shaman to a raid isntance worthwhile, because they aren't always the best healers. Once you stop casting, with enough spirit you can regenerate over 50 sometimes over 80 mana per second, depending on your gear. This, in long fights, makes all teh difference. If you can't see how useful spirit is, please become a warrior/rogue/un-retard.

just to say it... Shamans dont get mana from spirit in combat only out of combat...

The only think shamans can get mana in combat is mana pr. tick

so plz dont say shaman should have alot off spirit... well yea if you want nice mana regen when you are out off combat..

Short version: x mana per 5 second (MP5) is almost always the best stat in terms of caster longevity, because it's always feeding you mana regardless of what you do.

Long version: That said, here's how spirit works...

Out of combat, spirit increases health and mana regeneration.
In combat, spirit increases mana regeneration if you haven't cast a spell in the last 5 seconds. "Cast a spell" meaning the spell entirely finished casting and cost you mana. Partially casting a heal and canceling it doesn't interrupt spirit regen, nor does using a free Clearcasting spell.
WOWWiki calculates Shaman benefit from spirit to be Spirit/5 + 17 per tick (ticks happen every 2 seconds). So it takes 5 spirit to give us 1 mana every 2 seconds.
So 2 spirit = 1 mana per 5 second.
Keep in mind that only getting this regen if you haven't cast in the last 5 seconds is the primary disadvantage of spirit. It's a big disadvantage.

Fun facts:

A. Mages and Priests get more benefit from spirit (Spirit/4 instead of Spirit/5 for all other classes.)

B. Shamans get the highest base increase (17) to their spirit regen. Priests/Mages get 10.5. All other classes get 15. (ie 15 mana every 2 second tick.)

C. Will of Arlokk (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=51764) with +20 spirit enchant gives 56 total spirit, making it the second highest combat-swappable spirit item in the game (+55 spirit.) This drops in ZG (20 man instance.)

D. Bludstone Hammer and Garrett Family Crest with +20 spirit and +9 spirit to shield enchants is the highest combat-swappable spirit in the game (+56 spirit total.) These are both BOE blues, meaning that if you're not in a ZG-capable guild you can find them in the auction house with moderate frequency.

Note that swapping to gear with different int and stam values can significantly change your health and mana; oftentimes destroying any efficiency that would be gained from switching to a "spirit regen" item mid-fight. That said, it can be handy if you bottom out at zero mana and know you're not going to be casting anything for a while anyway.

Lastly, I should reiterate that MP5 gear is almost always superior. Running highend raid instances like Naxxramas and BWL, I strongly lean towards MP5 gear because I'm almost never get time to sit idle and spirit regen.

ever since the new patch they made shaman and pally loot drop for alliance and horde. sucks when u cant even play alliance shamans/horde paladins yet.

These are crap. No int, and what use is strength to a shaman in MC? Large portion of shamans in MC heal or maybe try to outdps mage/locks/rogues.

But aside from that these are horrible due to the fact you lose the spell crit earthfury gaunts had and there's no int!

Did they change these gloves since these guys made their posts, or are they just dumb? I think they must have changed, because these have a pile of int, no str, and regen / + to spells. Not to mention the absurd Ten Storms set bonuses. :o godly.
